I'd agree that no lettering would be a turn-off. I like being able to actually read the story... the only edition of "The Rocketeer" that I have is the Artist's Edition and I don't plan on buying any color reprint collections.
Would it hurt the integrity of the product to digitally add the computer lettering over the scanned page? I'd be okay with that compromise.
I'm not familiar with the computer lettering process, but I assume that artists still leave some room for word bubbles or actually still draw the bubbles into the panels in advance?
One similar question seems to involve artists like Dave Gibbons now only drawing in the computer, eliminating the idea of original art entirely.

Not too long ago, the original art for Alpha Flight #1 was being sold complete... not sure who bought it.
That would make a sweet book.

As John has said, it's quite impossible to get all of the stuff needed for an Artist Edition now. What I would like to see is a reissue of The Art of John Byrne by IDW, but we're getting the next best thing with this website and the commissions threads on the forum. I think John's okay with things as they are now.

I'm puzzled by this. Why wouldn't a collector be willing? It's not like the original art would decrease in value. Does IDW have a track record of destroying art as they do the scans?

original art would decrease in value. Does IDW have a track record of
destroying art as they do the scans?

JB was talking about getting originals from his X-Men.
It's NOT impossible to get complete JB originals. For example... Jim Warden owns complete interiors to:
Alpha Flight #14
Incredible Hulk #319 (including the cover)
Doomsday +1 #4
Spider-Man: Chapter One #8 (including cover)
X-Men: Hidden Years #8 (including cover)
...and that's just Jim Warden. I know there are other collectors out there who own complete JB issues.
