Just read it. Very very very sad news. I very briefly met him, but did not dare bother him too much.
Huge talent, huge personality, he influenced so many people in manga, comics, bande dessinee, and movies as well.

What a sad day.

Joe, I'd recommend you try his Lt. Blueberry stuff.  Marvel reprinted a number of his stories in handsome paperback volumes a number of years back.  They're long out of print, but shouldn't be too hard to find.

*********

I appreciate the recommendations but they are turning out to be hard to find.  Amazon doesn't seem to have much of anything by Moebius in print (am I looking at something wrong?)...mycomicshop.com has none of the BLUEBERRY stuff or other Moebius in stock...looks like Milehighcomics is out of stock in everything or it is priced through the roof!

I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get a hold of some of the better known works by such a legendary figure.

Fake milestone post # 10101

<Joe Hollon> I'd love some recommendations for comics by Moebius to pick up. What's the best of the best*?

<JB> I'd highly recommend THE AIRTIGHT GARAGE OF JERRY CORNELIUS -- tho don't expect to understand it, whatever language you find it in!

Seconding JB with THE AIRTIGHT GARAGE, though the printings you are likely to find no longer have the Jerry Cornelius association (Michael Moorcock rights issues) unless you track down the original Heavy Metal magazines.

I'll add ARZACH and THE INCAL series as definite must-reads.

Your best bet are any of the nine Epic graphic novels if you can find them.

The BLUEBERRY and INCAL english printings were also published under the Epic label but they are separate from the other GN's.

Joe, if you really are desperate, I can try to find you some stuff in english from him. I recently found a shop in Paris with some French comics translated in english. Maybe there are books from him. I'll check it next time.

Terrible news to wake up to. One of the most brilliant, imaginary and influential comic artists ever. There will never be another like him.

Joe,

Dark Horse reprinted ARZACH in a manga-sized digest but IMO it was the wrong format for this sort of stuff.  There's other stuff that Dark Horse printed in this format (MADWOMAN OF THE SACRED HEART, MAN FROM THE CIGURI) but I don't recommend starting with those.  MADWOMAN is pretty explicit and might not be for everyone's tastes, CIGURI is a sequel to the AIRTIGHT GARAGE.

There's a Marvel reprint of THE AIRTIGHT GARAGE as a 4 issue series in the early 90's that might be easier to track down.
