I've got the fourth issue of AFTERMATH and a big (30x40) piece for Jim Warden chasing me this week, so it seem like a like pipe cleaning might be in order.

11" x 17" illo of Sue Richards, no background

Details:

- Please draw her with a "determined" look and in the same costume as she wore in FF #'s 259-260 (the commissioner specifically referenced the look Sue had when she confronted Dr. Doom)

- please draw her completely visible

Thanks! I had in mind that somebody was about to be on the receiving end of one mother of an invisible forcefield!

Very cool. I like how she seems to be leaning into whatever she's about
to unleash.

You know, I used to wonder if there should be any "recoil" from Sue's forcefields. Certainly it was established that any force directed against the fields could end up being transmitted back to Sue, often with damaging results. Do Newtonian physics apply when she projects one of her fields? I was try to draw Cyclops bracing himself against the outward force of his beams, and I used to sometimes, tho not consistently, I'll admit, do the same with Sue.

Very cool. Looks like a forcefield is coming on and I would hate to be on the receiving end. Well done, JB!

The hair has a little of a Terry Austin inks feel to it.

Reaaaaaally like this one....It just seems to pop.  I've always been partial to these character studies.  Very few artists can pull off an onobscured view of a character and make it look interesting, especially at this size.  I'm SURE the commissioner is happy/

Nice!

Not to make a new thread, so I'll just ask here: JB, did Stan and/or Jack offer any comments (if so, hopefully all positive!) about your work on FF, particularly what you did with Sue's character?

Nice work.

JB: How do you go about or knowing where to add blacks to characters costumes such as Sue, Cyclops and especially your Spider-Man?
I love the way you do so and I have difficulty knowing where to add them.

I particularly love the eyes and the way the black plays off the white on the uniform.

Love how she looks like a force to be reckoned with and so beautiful at the same time.

I'm in love. :)

By the way, the confrontation between Sue and Dr. Doom during that storyline is one of my favorite moments during JB's run on the Fantastic Four.

I like the fingers on Sue's right hand... very natural. Subtle stuff. Great job, JB.

Nope.

Well -- Stan wrote me a short, complimentary note on "The House that Reed Built", but nothing character specific.

One of the odder things I have noticed, over the years, is that when I offer some samplings of my "sage council", many people respond with outright hostility. Far from appreciating that what I have to say is based on decades of accumulated experience, they react as if I am saying I have ALWAYS known thus-and-such, and they are IDIOTS for NOT knowing it.

I sometimes imagine a child in school, rebelling when told that 2+2=4 for the first time.
