After two big ones in a single week, I decided to "take a break" today and do one of the simpler requests on the List.

11" x 17" illo of Iceman with your choice of either Storm or Phoenix, no backgrounds. The details are:

- Iceman in Neal Adams vintage appearance

- Storm or Phoenix in costume of your choice from your run on X-Men

- Please give the piece a "fun" vibe, with the lady X-character interacting with an ice construct, perhaps sitting on a slide similar to the following:

LINK

(The thought of having one of the ladies SITTING on Bobby's ice slide made me shiver, so I went in another direction, as you can see. . . )

It's nice to see Phoenix in non-evil mode.

A black and white image like this, for me, really punches up how much better the coloring would have been for Phoenix if they'd gone with the white Dave intended, instead of Marvel Girl green.

That's one thing I really miss about how Iceman used to be drawn.  This recent "reinvention" of the character seems more like someone's fan-fic cop-out (hence John's often-stated distaste for the "fans turned pro") than anything like creative writing.  Really, kids... Iceman literally turning into ice?

Count me as enjoying this glimpse of the pre-Dark Phoenix Jean these days.  Well done!

••

Bobby was shown literally turning to ice in an early issue, where he experimented with making himself as "transparent" as he could, mimicking the Invisible Girl.

That idea, which had not been mentioned before, was promptly forgotten.

That is a nice change of pace, not enough Iceman commissions, he has such a great super power.

Very nice!  I really like everything about the Iceman figure (look at those hands!) and Jean's hair looks great!  Definitely fun!

The devilish grin on Bobby's face from showing off for Jean is great.

Love it! This kind of moment feels very "real" to me-- simple and unforgettable.

Jean and Bobby look terrific.

Love it, especially Jean's face.

I recall a Lee-Kirby issue where Bobby somehow made instant ice cream for a slice of pie. I guess he had a mutant sugar-dairy power too! But, of course, part of the charm of these classic issues is the sheer whimsy. No dominant anal fan-boys in the 60s, so a groovy brief little image like that was just plain fun and nothing more.

Perhaps I was some kind of proto-anal-fanboy, since that moment bothered me, even as a kid. Where does the cream come from? It was funny how eyebeams and wings and telekinetic powers fretted me not a jot, but Bobby making ice cream disturbed my early-teen sensibilities!
