This is one of those costumes that just went a little too far. It is somewhat similar to the one that preceded it, but the stylized WM takes more away that it gives. It would have been nice for everything above the belt to be shaded like JB did with the trunks and then for all the torso, arms and trunks to be the same color. And, what was the purpose of the forehead device?

That's terrific, JB and I'll say I'm in the minority and like the costume. It's weird, but looks great when you draw it. Also brings back distinct memories of happier days of comics.

My sense at that time was that George simply did not like empty space on the page, no matter how small.

It's been an interesting journey, watching him grow as an artist, and learn to appreciate the "quiet" moments in his art. It's this, I think, as much as anything else, that makes him one of the best in the Biz.

JB, do you personally consider this piece an homage to Iron Man #100, or just inspired by it?

••

I drew what I was asked to draw.

Very nice - love the energy in the commission.

I think the Perez one was a good design that could have benefited from a simpler color scheme.

Original Kirby one

I was wondering about the color pattern of the costume... I think that without the yellow looks a little bit better.

But I still like more the one he wore in AWC, the one that was black with red.

The original Kirby costume looked fine to me.  Not sure why they've kept tinkering with his look so much over the years.  It's sort of funny, when I look at several designs for the character I tend to like them a lot or strongly dislike what they came up...very little middle ground!

Another winner from JB.  Really enjoy the expression you gave him along with the shredding of the girder.
