20 x 30 Montage Commission of MysterioDetails: - Portrait Layout - Large central figure of Mysterio separating the page however you see fit Vignettes to include: - Mysterio's origin with Quentin Beck in a workshop developing his alter ego (per ASM #13). If it works for you, include the alienmask from ASM #2 in a trash can - Re-imagining the cover of ASM #13 where Spider-Man shoots webbing at Mysterio - Mysterio controlling his robots of the X-Men (Cyclops, Beast and Angel) while they are fighting Spider-Man from the story in ASM Annual#1 - Re-imagining a part of the story from ASM #66-67 when a "tiny" Spider-Man menaced by a "giant" Mysterio at an amusement park - Spider-Man and the Human Torch fighting Mysterio and the Wizard from ASM Annual #4.

Love it. Especially the X-Men fight, but an outstanding piece throughout. Great hands, as always.

Sidebar: As I was checking the reference for this, I was struck by how much Ditko's unmasked Mysterio resembled Leonard Nimoy. Perhaps Steve is a fan of ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE...?Speaking of faces, I could not resist going back to something like the Wizard's original physiognomy, rather than the more generic form that evolved over the years.

'Fess up, JB! You got Ditko himself to draw Beck in the upper left corner...!
This commission has 100% of our daily requirement of Ditko-inspired goodness! Love it.

Reaaaally nice. Especially like how you can see the hint of an actual head under Mysterio's dome. Small toouch that realy adds a ton. Been a while since we've seen a montage!

Totally love this one (and, well, all of em really)! The shading and shadow work (not sure how else to refer to it) on Mysterio's costume is really impressive!

Thanks, Dan!Now, here's a question for all -- Does this piece go toward the X-Men's tally on the Character Count chart? Mysterio earns a line, with this one. Belatedly. He'd snuck up to five appearances without my noticing!

Beck, top left, looks sooooo reminiscent of Ditko's style. Great job.
Love the way you've depicted the folds of the cape as blocks of black separated by negative space.
The X-Men sector just gives me an old school buzz, the kind of excitement and fun that Marvel comics used to be full of. Hero faces off against robot simulacrum's of cool other heroes.
And then good to see Amazing Spider-Man annual #4 referenced -- that was one of the earliest comics we had in the house (as a hardbacked UK reprint). Must have read that comic 30 times before I was in my teens.
Oh, and great right hand on the central Mysterio figure. The little pinky and the ring finger really appear to be coming out of the page.
And I always love the pattern on the inside of Mysterio's cloak.

Wow! Fantastic, JB! Mesmerizing to look at, which is all too appropriate for Mysterio!
I absolutely think the eyes move - it's part of the magic trick distraction. If the eyes don't move, then it would create that "uncanny valley" effect of disconnected, robotic eyes. Someone with Beck's knack for illusion could create an effect where the eyes look real.

Wow John! It looks like you channeled some Ditko in the uper left hand corner section with Mysterio unmasked. As for the eyes moving, I hadn't thought of that before. It would be creepy if they did.

COOL!!!
To answer the two questions JB posed:
I don't think the X-Men should count on the character count sheet since they aren't the real deals. As for Mysterio's "eyes," I have never seen them portrayed in a way that I thought they moved, so I would say no. That noted, though, I think it would be neat and creepy if they did move.
