Yes, the way we can still "see" through the un-lite windows is just great! And of course the gargoyle is phenomenal but ¡the textures! This and the "pillar" underneath caught m attention inmediatly.

I imagine it must have been a joy doing the Batman/Captain America book. The enjoyment I got out of that was unforgettable. Knowing now how you feel about them. It must have been a projection of the fun you put into it that made it so timeless.•• As you may know, since I blab about it at every opportunity, my first real exposure to Batman was in black and white hardcover "annuals" that were published in England when I was a lad. After my family moved to Canada, various relatives used to send them to me every Xmas. I'd drawn Batman many times when I finally got to do BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA, but still, the first time I drew him in that book, with the square chin, the short "ears" and no ellipse around the bat emblem, my brain said There he is! It was like being reunited with an old friend.

I really like the gargoyle, very slick. I have always wondered if there is a reference you use for the gargoyle's or make them up yourself ?•• A little of both. Usually, as with this piece, I look up "gargoyles" online, scroll thru a whole bunch of them to get a "feel", and then make up my own.

Well, that's the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I love that looking
into the window under the gargoyle, which is awesome btw, you can
see the inside of the windows around the corner. Just amazing.

You know, I was really tired and bored of "Batman atop a gargoyle"
scenes...and then this one comes along and it's the best Batman EVER!
Reminds me that I got hooked on Batman when I read THE UNTOLD LEGEND
OF BATMAN, with Byrne/Aparo art!

On the matter of those dark windows... Much as I would love to humbly acknowledge my genius, what you're seeing there is basically a scan artifact. After I scan the pieces I adjust the white, to bring it closer to the actual shade of the paper. Sometimes this will also effect some of the lighter blacks. In this case, since I draw all the window frames before I black out some of them, that means the panes in those dark windows have less ink on them than the frames between the panes. You can't really notice this on the original, unless your nose is about an inch from the paper.

John, your Batman is up there with Jm Aparo in my opinion. The cape is key.

This is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I would buy a comic with this Batman in a heartbeat!!!! The commission threads are one of my favorite things on the whole internet! I love seeing each new one!!! Other than back issues, this is one of the few places that I can see the characters as they SHOULD be! Congratulations to the buyer and thank you for sharing these JB!
