So great.  Nice to see a different side of Wolverine, yet something that still seems wholly in keeping with his character.

By the way -- before any of the artists among you call me on it, I want to point out that, yes, I did break a "rule" on this one, by having Wolverine leading with his left arm and his left leg.

++

Seems like a happy accident then, JB.

••

It wasn't an "accident". As noted, I chose the pose deliberately.

WOLVERINE: DEER STALKER!

Love his expression!

And the backgrounds are excellent in this one!

The arms and legs are spot-on if you've ever "snuck".

The problem with looking at JB's commissions is that a part of my brain starts trying to convince to to start buying Marvel again...but I've been down that road and it didn't end well!

Lovely work.....always enjoy seeing JB's Wolverine.

One of my favorite moments ever, from the story which introduced the X-Men by JB to me. What could I say apart from... congrats to the owner?

"I want one, too!"

It's funny -- or is that sad? -- that after more than thirty years I still get a kind of slow burn going in my head, when I ink the hair on Wolverine's arms.

Dave Cockrum had not drawn Logan with hairy arms, when in costume. The guy looked like a bearskin rug when he took his shirt off, but the hair disappeared when he donned his costume. (I used to wonder if the arms indeed had sleeves, but flesh colored, like Burt Ward's Robin tights.)

When I came on the book I was told I must follow Dave's model (it had not occurred to me to do otherwise!), and draw Wolverine with no hair on his arms.

Then came issue 112, with a cover by George Perez. I was in New York, for a Con, when the issue came out. And there, front and center, was Wolverine with hairy arms. George had drawn the character as he should have looked all along, and nobody had "fixed" it (probably because they didn't want to hurt George's feelings!).

Well, as far as I was concerned, the gloves (or more correctly, the flesh colored sleeves!) were off! In the next issue I drew -- 115 -- I gave Wolverine some arm hair. Not as much as he has these days, but it was a beginning.

But still frustrating to look back at being forbidden to do so from the start, all because of those arbitrary "rules" that sneak into comics from time to time.

I always love seeing the brown costume and I think the pose looks very natural/appropriate for one sneaking up on a deer and getting so close!

I always love seeing the brown costume…

I know I've told the story before, of Jim Lee, during the brief period I was scripting the X-Books, telling me with great delight that he was putting Wolveine "back in his real costume".

Apparently he was unaware of who had designed the brown one!

Great idea for a commission.  Simply stunning.  Love the scenery.  JB you are such a great storyteller.  So much conveyed in one frame.  You can feel the tension in Wolverine's body just the way you have rendered him.  Fantastic.

How many JB clones would be enough to handle the monthly writing and art duties of FF, Avengers, Spider-Man, Thor, X-Men, Hulk, Captain America and Iron Man at once?

Wouldn't that be sweet!
