My take on my pull... DETECTIVE COMICS #12- Good issue, great to see a Batman that's in control and heroic. EARTH 2 #4- This was a good issue, I hope the build toward the Justice Society doesn't take much longer. JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #12- I'm not sure how finished this team is, I hope they come back with a new title (and name) after the annual. STORMWATCH #12- Good characterization with Midnighter and Apollo and Martian Manhunter leaving is a plus. WORLDS FINEST #4- Just a good buddy book. GODLAND #36- My store tended to eat this title so they don't order any copies (after 8 issues I was the only person buying the book and when I dropped it they stopped ordering it), so I should get this in a week or so. DAREDEVIL #16- SUCH a great book! Over the years, I've bought Daredevil but have never been in love with the character. The first issue that I ever bought was in 3 pack that you could get in the grocery store back in the 80's. It was a Denny O'neill issue that may have introduced the character that would become Lady Deathstrike. I started picking it up on the newstand with O'neill and the first Mazzuchelli issues which of course led to the second Miller run and the Nocenti/JRjr run. Lost track when he went to the armored look and came back near the end of the Bendis run. This is the best version that has made me love the character! HAWKEYE #1- I didn't dislike it as much as I expected so I bought the issue. It wasn't bad. Hawkeye is a tough one because as much as I liked Jim MCann's take on him the last few years, the character was never as great as he was in the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. The Aja art is probably what is selling this for me. Bought the Roger Stern Spectacular Spider-Man Point One issue as well. It was great!

A lot of great stories that blend disparate myths, legends and gothic-style horror motifs -- together with a dash of Lovecraft to spice the whole thing up -- into some really great, fun entertainment. Enjoy!

Thanks, Anthony! I've begun with Hellboy: Masks and Monsters; then, I'm on to some B.P.R.D.

Shawn,
(a) Happy Birthday! (b) You're right: Worlds' Finest is a great buddy book! Love those characters together--even if they're not quite MY Huntress and Power Girl from the '70s and '80s, but they're closer to those versions than they've been in quite some time!

I'm curious to hear thoughts about the Adams X-MEN book as well. I picked it up, thumbed through it and just....couldn't....

Anybody a fan of the Mignolaverse? What am I in for? Thomas, I've loved the entire Hellboy run and the Lobster Johnson stories. BPRD is great as well.

Re: Mudman. Annnnnd that's why I didn't follow Grist onto his new book. I was willing to put up with the ridiculous delays on Jack Staff because he got me attached to the book before they started getting too bad, but I'd learned my lesson. It's a shame he hasn't. Re: Mignolaverse. Heh, I'm a recent arrival to that myself (thanks again to Dave Pruitt for all his help with getting me caught up). Hellboy's generally solid, although I do prefer the "arc" stories to the standalones. Didn't care much for the early BPRD stuff, but once Guy Davis showed up things really started clicking. A bit more hit and miss since he left, but still worth following. I'd recommend sticking with trades though because the pacing gets a bit maddening on a monthly basis. I've tried Lobster Johnson, but the two minis I read just didn't click with me. Not sure why. I have the two one-shots on order; we'll see. Haven't tried the other stuff. Anyway, on to this week's books: LCS: - Daredevil #16 (Really needed more "warning signs" from Matt (aside from #1) for Foggy's reaction to seem natural. As it stands, Foggy's conclusions come across as manufactured. Liked the stuff with Hank Pym, though, even if it reminded me of how sad I was when I'd heard they killed off Jan.)
- Earth 2 #4 (Alan needs a cape. Other than that, it's decent enough, but I really miss the elder statesmen aspect of Jay, Alan, et al.)
- Hawkeye #1 (Got on a whim. At least it had some meat to it, but the action sequences came across as more Bullseye than Hawkeye (down to a playing card to the throat(!)). It'll take another whim for me to come back for #2.)
- Thief of Thieves #7 (Finishing out the first storyline. Not bad, but I don't need any more. Made me wonder if someone working on this book is a fan of the Leverage tv show. Belated vent on #5? - yes, "introducing the gang" sequences can be fun, but simulating the TV/movie method of doing so takes up way too much real estate in a comic.)
- Worlds' Finest #4 (Really like the art and the banter between the characters, but 4 issues to put this guy away was excessive.)
- X-Factor #241 (Haven't read it yet.)
Mail order: Mind Mgmt #3, Love and Capes: What to Expect #1, Transformers #82, Black Kiss II #1, Epic Kill #4, Godland #36 (speaking of a series with ridiculous delays...), Mind the Gap #3, Garfield #4, Girl Genius v.11, Rasl #15, and Doc Savage v.60.

She was Bendis-ed (killed for no reason) Apparently the Skrulls somehow made her into a bomb and she was the sacrificial lamb that made Secret Invasion "important". I may be missing a detail here or there, if so please correct me. Dave, I agree that the Foggy move came out of nowhere. I hope that Matt getting fired doesn't ruin the vibe of the book.

Only got the new issue of RASL this week. Added the remainder of IDWs Battle Beasts miniseries to my pull though - the first issue of that was enough to merit another 3 comics to see where they're taking the property.

Shawn, your statement covers the entirety of my knowledge of the subject. :-) Other than that, I know that Hank called himself the Wasp for awhile in tribute, but I guess he's gotten past that.

The recent Cameron Stewart two-issue BPRD offering is solid as well.

By the way, Waid's characterization of Hank Pym in this issue of Daredevil is one of the better treatments of him in today's Marvel. Christos Gage does a nice job as well. When he took the Wasp name in Jan's honor, Dan Slott made it kind of creepy. But it's better than the way Bendis handled him when he was given the Avengers franchise.

Adam - I'm pretty sure I still have mine in a bag in my storage closet.
I was wary of the series because I heard the Battle Beasts get connected to modern Earth, but it was handled well enough to hook me and since it's only a four issue mini, I figure I'll support it and if it's good, then I'll be on for the (hopefully) eventual ongoing. Issue one had good art (at least, the Battle Beasts themselves looked cool) and a decent enough premise to get the other 3 issues out of me.

Happy birthday, Adam. Seeing the new comics coming out, it still makes me mad that DC started over in their numbering. As a kid I couldn't wait for Action Comics 1000.

Is that a typo, or do you mind if I ask how long you've been collecting comics? Action Comics 100! That would have been in the 1940s!

It's really weird to be reading Buffy Season 9 in comic form and have it be the same numbering as Action Comics! Heck, my beloved Archie Comics Mega Man series is already a longer running series than any of the New 52 ever will be!
DC and Marvel can't seem to screw stuff like that up often enough!

Didn't Thor "have to" kill her?

Craig, I don't think Thor killed her. Thor sent her away through a portal before she exploded and (I think) destroyed NYC. (Not excusing the scene, just clarifying it)
