I'm pleased to announce IDW will be releasing, in 2013, a hardcover collection of ALL my STAR TREK stuff.

That's ASSIGNMENT: EARTH, CREW, FRONTIER DOCTOR and all the ROMULANS series gathered together for the first time between the same covers. (And, yes, I will be providing new art for said covers.}

This will be a "last chance" to clean up all the little glitches that have persisted thru various iterations, like the Engineer whose name changes mysteriously in SCHISM, and may failure to identify the Organian who pops up at the end of the same series. Also correcting a line of dialog from TOS which was "fixed" by an over-zealous proofreader in THE HOLLOW CROWN. We're also going to see if it's possible to fix the poor resolution on the first issue of A:E, which was my fault since I somehow scanned the pages at the wrong setting.

Anyway, if you want to shout out any goofs you think you have found, now's the time.

Any word whether it will be "standard" sized or the bigger size that IDW sometimes publishes?

Excellent! I've been waiting for IDW to put all of your Star Trek work in
an omnibus. This is actually better. Not that there needs to be, but will
there be any extras from previous trades?

I remember seeing a ton of spelling typos in these.   I'm pretty sure a couple balloons were pointed at the wrong people, too.

Unfortunately, mine are packed away -- so to those out there proof reading, watch for this.

GREAT news !!   I'll definitely pick this up.

I'm trying to find this in the McCoy thread (I think it was Greg who noticed it).Gary Seven was shot in STAR TREK  ASSIGNMENT: EARTH then he was shot in Frontier Doctor but said he had never been shot before.

Update: I found it!

But looking at the Q & A from that thread, can we leave this as "thats how time travel works"?

Excellent news! Just picked up my Treasury Romulan comic last week and enjoyed the bigger pages. Hopefully IDW will go the bigger route for this project. Looking forward to this book.

++++++++

I'm not sure if you're saying that this is a mistake or not, but it's clearly intentional--JB confirmed it as such. It's a case of how time travel works, indeed.

Subtle clues in the MCCOY story place it prior to the A:E issue where Seven was shot.

After finding the thread & rereading the pertinent parts of the comics I'm saying......not.

Thanks Greg.

Considering that A:E was NOT a time travel series (despite the interpretation some fans insist on applying to the original episode), I DID manage to have some fun with chronologies. Like the "crossover" with "Tomorrow is Yesterday" which, from the vantage of the Enterprise crew, actually takes place BEFORE the scene with Kirk and Spock used as the opening of the first issue.

In FRONTIER DOCTOR I also managed to get in what I HOPE was a poignant reference, with Roberta wanting to get home to Earth in time for a Xmas visit with her boyfriend in Vietnam.

JB, did Chris Ryall give you an idea when this will be solicited? I
haven't looked at a Previews in years and would like to make a note
so my LCS orders me one.

Also, make sure you tell Chris "Thank You" from a happy John Byrne
and Star Trek fan. He's quickly made IDW my favorite comicbook
publisher.

This is really wonderful news - the STAR TREK work is exceptional.  A single edition for these stories is a great idea.  I love how each series stands on its own, yet still exists within these interesting pockets of STAR TREK continuity.  And I am grateful that they are their own contained pockets, because I am not as versed in continuity as you guys.  I would be lost if the series required previous knowledge of the STAR TREK universe.

Looking at all of the stories together, a single edition is a great way to see the JB TREK universe crossovers.  As mentioned above, ASSIGMENT: EARTH crops up in FRONTIER DOCTOR.  And my favorite crossover(s) feature a certain CREWmember who shall continue to remain nameless!

"I remember seeing a ton of spelling typos in these."

****

It appears that the typos and misdirected word balloons were corrected for the trade paperbacks.  I collect JB trades, so I have had these since they were released.  I don't see any goofs in that department - at least nothing that has jumped out at me.

ASSIGNMENT: EARTH # 1

Pg. 6, panel 5: Roberta's "That thing always makes my tummy do flip-flops" is missing punctuation.

A:E # 2:

Pg. 3, panel 3: There shouldn't be an apostrophe in Seven's "Time travel let's you do things like that".

Pg. 11, panel 4: Apostrophe in the wrong place for Seven's line, "The guard must have accidentially tripped one of their communicator's emergency signals".

Pg. 19, panel 6: The pointer for Roberta's "Hey! Who turned on the teleporter thing?" word balloon is aimed at Seven.

CREW # 1:

Pg 15, panel 6: Boyce says, "Phaser fire!" instead of the period-correct "Laser fire!".

CREW # 2:

Pg 16, panel 1: Number One says, "Captain Amos. Tactical. Phaser control." instead of the period-correct "Laser control.".

CREW # 4:

Pg 3, panel 1: Number One refers to "Captain" Rasmussen instead of "Admiral".

CREW # 5:

Pg 17, panel 1: Pike says, "My phaser...?" instead of the period-correct "My laser...?"

"Balance of Terror" trade-only retelling:

Looks like the transcript you used had a few errors when compared to the episode itself, JB.

Trade pg. 29, panel 1: Decius' line should read, "Only to inform the Praetor of this glorious mission", not "the glorious mission".

Pg. 29, panel 4: The Centurion's line should read "We've seen a hundred campaigns together" not "We've seen 100 campaigns", since it reads differently than the episode proper sounds with the use of the number "100".

Pg. 29, panel 5: The following line in bold is missing from the Commander's balloon: "The Earth commander will follow. He must. And when he does, we will destroy him."

Pg. 34, panel 3: The Commander's line should be, "He reads the very thoughts in my brain", not "head".
