A very nice commission. I like the capes and Barda's helmet (hair?), very Kirby look to my eyes.

Scott and Barda are my two favorite New Gods, nice to see them in a powerful pose. Thanks for sharing.

…Barda's helmet (hair?)…

••

A point that many artist seem to miss is that Kirby clearly intended Barda to be TRANSFORMED into her armored form. This was not a metal suit she put on, she BECAME the suit. And so, yes, her helmet becomes a stylized version of her hair.

Very good. I like the entire commission, obviously, but I quite like the emotion behind Miracle's eyes.

Great to see JB's take on the Fourth World.  I was thrilled with every issue JKFW and especially the Tales of the New Gods.  JB "gets" Kirby in a way a lot of other writers and artists don't IMHO.

The only way to fail to "get" Kirby, imho, is to look for something that isn't there. To dig for "hidden meanings" in the work. I think Kirby was probably the living embodiment of the old saw, "don't read between the lines, I don't write there."

Take his work at face value, and you can't go far off the track.

I just picked up the fourth(and final) volume of Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus from DC and I gotta say,it is indeed epic storytelling. I never really warmed up to the Fourth World stuff that I read in the 80's and 90's. I tried and really wanted to like it but something about it just didn't grab hold with me. The closest I came to enjoying these concepts, was when JB was doing his work on Kirby's Fourth World book and Walt Simonson's Orion book.....until now! Reading all of Kirby's Fourth World in these volumes made me enjoy it in a way I couldn't before. Oh and great piece there JB ;)
