Love it! Batman is a character that JB nails every time! That Batgirl is really second to none. Amazing! Then add in how awesome that Batmobile looks and this is one killer commission.

Wonderful commission. Batgirl is very sexy, yet still wholesome, the car is cool and I like the look of this Gotham -- don't know how to describe it, but it's the kind of 60s 'futuristic' look where the Space Needle could fit in.

Great Commission JB! That's the Batman and Batgirl from my youth
and boy do I miss them. Congrats to the commissioner!

I'm curious JB, how would you handle doing the 50's Batmobile for a
commission? Would you draw it, or simply figure out where it needs to
be a print out a copy of the computer model onto the Bristol? Either
way, it would still be your work and that model of yours is pretty
breathtaking.

••

Printing the Batmobile image onto the commission would be a lot more work than drawing it! And would also fall short of giving the customer his/her money's worth.

Fortunately, my Batmobile models were not among those lost when I was cleaning up my harddrive a while back, so I would still be able to use them for reference.

I can't pretend to know what features make this the Futura Batmobile - I'm not that well versed.. but this car is just beautiful.

••

George Barris made several cosmetic changes when he turned the Futura into the TV Batmobile. He removed the canopy top (which I did on this version, too), changed the grill, the hood, and the angle of the headlight cowlings. He also removed the chrome, replacing it with red paint, at the same time altering the shape of the wheel wells. He scalloped the top rear of the fins, and filled in the front vent on the fins.

Here's a picture that will give you some idea. The Futurua (top) in this case is the ALP tin toy that was released in the 1950s, and the Batmobile is the 1:18 scale Hot Wheels version from a few years back. Obviously, the tin toy's details are a good deal "softer" than the HW model, but the comparison can still be made.

Your Barbara Gordon Batgirl is beautiful. She's one of my favorite heroines. Another great commission.

Both Futura and Barris Batmobiles are veeery cool. My two favorites but the the Barris wins out for me. Heh blame the tv show for that one. Funny, as a kid I was always looking for this Batmobile to show up in the books and was disappointed when it never did (73 and on).

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Love the Batmobile and love your Batgirl. I especially like the shading on her. Very fluid with no hatching. Excellent.
