MAJOR kudos to Faber-Castell for the response! It's one thing to call
a company and voice your praise, opinion or complaint, it's a whole
different thing for them to become a member of the forum you belong
to just to acknowledge a complaint.

I agree JB. I've given up other pens for the PITT line. Currently I use
the XS, S, M, F and Brush tips. All of the other nibs holt up very well.
The pens give a really good even line and there black ink is BLACK.

Still, I've never had a brand of art supply that I've felt I should have
loyalty to. If I like the product, I used it. If I found, what I thought was
a better product from a different manufacturer, I switched.

A company showing they care about there customers means a lot.
Especially today when it seems so many companies really don't care. I
look forward to hearing there response, and am now a Faber-Castell
loyalist.

We are delighted that for artists such as you, Faber-Castell products have become a trusted brand of preference.  It is always a special treat when our customers share with us the history of, and evolved relationship with, one of our products.

Based on the helpful feedback that you’ve provided, we are currently addressing the details with our colleagues in Germany.  As you are aware, this type of disappointing experience is not something that one usually encounters or comes to expect with Faber-Castell products.

While we look into the details and concerns regarding the quality issues of the brush pens you described, we would like to offer the products referenced below to you as a gift in the meantime.

In addition to the B, XS, S, F and M PITT pens, we also offer the BB – big brush, SC – soft chisel, SB – soft brush and 1.5 mm – bullet nib.  We are confident that you will especially enjoy working with the big brush and soft brush pens.

Again, we thank you for your feedback.  This issue is of high concern for us, and we are looking to resolve it as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Faber-Castell

In addition to the B, XS, S, F and M PITT pens…

••

All of which I have used, with the XS being my go-to pen these days.

+++

…the BB – big brush…

••

My tool of choice for spotting large black areas! On commission pieces I often have to make several passes, to get the black as solid as I want. but for reproduction, when I can adjust the density on the scan, the Big Brush is ideal.

I will have to look for the SB.

Yikes! Picked up half a dozen or so of the brush pens last week, and used two of them this morning. WORSE THAN EVER!!

The points went soft and flabby almost immediately (even clipped they would not "hold") and the ink is washed out, forcing me to make several passes over the same lines to get a solid black.

Hope this was just a "bad batch"!! Also hope it's not ALL of them!

This is where a rep from Faber-Castell becoming a member, cuts them
some slack. I don't know why there product is having quality issues,
but I'm willing to give them time to resolve the issue. Although I'd hope
we'd hear something soon.

Bit of an update.

I sent them an email about the issue (mentioning the posting on the forum)
and got a positive response. This email was forwarded to a few people and
the company that distributes Faber-Castell over here in the UK contacted me,
asking if I could send any samples.
Fortunately I had a few, including some old pens that had run out of ink, but
the nibs were still in good condition (have no idea where they came from as I
thought I'd thrown them away) so I sent them along with a long note
explaining the situation.

Then last week I received an email from them saying they'd received my
package and would send them on to the HQ in Germany for inspection and
that replacements would be sent to me. And today they arrived!!

I will be having a play with them over the next few days and hopefully they
will be of good quality. If not, then I'll just send them make with a similar
report.

So, if you haven't already done so, take action and if enough people get back
to them about this then hopefully it's' something that can be sorted out.

I do like it when companies actually listen to the people that use their
products. Well done Faber-Castell.

This morning my adventures with the newest brush pens continued. I noticed that the new pen -- the third in two days -- not only went "soft", which has been my complaint for a while, but was actually FRAYING!! The tip became stringy and "fuzzy".

This really is frustrating and even heartbreaking, as, as I have mentioned, I used to be able to ink SEVERAL PAGES with a single pen!
