Returning from a visit to the dentist yesterday, I passed the same rescue facility from whence came Gwynn, and, having been thinking it was about time for her to have a "little brother", stopped in. And met this guy:

That picture was taken while we were still at the Humane Society.

He's a bit more than a year old, and already named "Popo". THAT ain't gonna fly, so I shortened it to "Poe". He spent most of yesterday evening curled up in a corner of one of the counters in the kitchen, tho I did manage to get a couple of purrs and almost a head-bump from him, by scratching his ears and rump.

This morning he was among the invisible, and a search revealed he had found his way behind the dryer in the laundry room. Hope he got there on his own devices, and didn't fall. Since he doesn't come when called, I will have to wait for him to emerge on his own -- or try to slide the dryer out! Oy!

So far, "meeting" Gwynn has been a non-event. I carried him into the TV room, where she was lying on the couch. He whined and she trembled, and I didn't bring them any closer than six or seven feet. We'll have to wait to see how this plays out.

Good luck, JB. Like the name.

I love it when people get their pets from rescue facilities. That's where we got our dog, Baxter. Best decision for my family.

Congratulations.

Poe looks just like the mostly black kitty we adopted from a shelter a few weeks back to keep our big gray one warm.

Solid black, as he is, Poe conjures memories of the first cat I "knew", when I was scarcely more than an infant, in England. As I have mentioned before, time and place had caused that particular kitty to have a most unfortunate name, all too common, it seems, for black cats and dogs in those less enlightened times.

So "Poe" is a vast improvement!!

Awwww sweet kitty. I love black cats, great name with Poe.  I had one named Satchmo , named after Satchmo Louis Armstrong, one of my favorites. He was such a loving cat to me, but never warmed up to anyone else, which was fine.

Props for adopting an adult cat. They are the last to be adopted. I get the whole cute little kitten thing, but my present cat came to us fully grown, he is awesome. Never had to deal with a tiny cat climbing up my furniture or attacking my leg when I move it.

What happens when you rub a cat's belly?

Depends on the cat. My older female cat, Cordy, will let you pet her, she'll even roll over for it.

My young male cat, Dash? Not overly fond the belly pets.

Hmm.... I think that similarity may require a French ear!
