You might try leaving on a faucet in a sink or tub to a light trickle.
The constant movement might attract him.

I have a cat that is 25 years old. Now it has started toungue kissing o what it's doing and when I don't open my mouth it inserts its paw. It is very ill. It should have been put asleep a year ago, but then it was put on a special diet. But when it got here, it's owner died and was found dead on the kitchen floor, so when it arrived at my place it was not feeling at home and escaped twice. I wonder if that is what Poe feels like. The new home is not home, but kidnappers.

Found him.

Yesterday, I nearly dismantled the flat files room, the small "bedroom" (really no more than an extra large closet) off my Studio. I picked up all the cardboard boxes off the floor and moved them temporarily into the Studio proper, checking inside and around and under each one. In the process, I picked up a small tumbler from the floor and set it beside the solid mass of junk that has accumulated atop the flat files in the years I have been in this house.

At least, I thought it was a solid pile. But this morning, when I went into the room to use the Artograph, which also resides in there, I found the tumbler back on the floor. So I started carefully burrowing into the pile of junk, and. . .   behold, Poe!

In the dead center of the junk there is a "cave", about the size of four shoe boxes, and somehow he'd found it! I scratched his ears for a bit, to get reacquainted, and then put the outer "wall" back in place.

I wonder if he'll go find somewhere else, now?

(Seems that whenever I post pictures like this, they invariably unleash a cascade of "Hey, JB, what's _________?" Let's forego that ritual this time, okay?)

Whew!

Nice to know he's been in the studio - I don't know much about cat behavior, but it seems like a good sign that he was close by while you were at work.

Very glad that you found him safe and had the mindset to let him have
his space. Must be a huge relief for you.

I'm glad to hear it! I was holding back on the usual "Have you looked in_____?" hoping he would be found.

Now, how the hell did he get up there!?!
