John has the publication date been determined yet?

Yes -- tho I don't actually know what it is! I suppose I should ask!

A bit of trivia: reviewing star dates on the episodes, I find the completely arbitrary start date I gave my story, 4626.7, sets it between "A Piece of the Action" and "By Any Other Name", at least in terms of the order in which the episodes were filmed.

...and the Enterprise again visited the Galactic Barrier from the
second pilot in "By Any Other Name"! Small galaxy, eh?

Yes, lucky my "episode" afforded an opportunity for a quick review before they ran into Rojan and his gang.

If I really do end up doing more of these -- at least one seems semi-certain -- I suppose I will have to start paying real attention to the star dates. I'm pretty sure there's nothing in my story that references events that happened later, but that could become a problem!

As the barest of bare bones of a second adventure into these waters take form in my mind, this morning I thought I'd try a little experimenting to see how well some of the more challenging aspects might come together.

Here's a peek. . .

As those of you versed in TREK lore will guess, this part takes place several years after "The Cage". SO tempted to whiten Pike's temples!!

Oh, and Chris Ryall informs me the ship date for the current project is probably the third week of December.

Merry Xmas.

I'm of the opinion that you should definitely whiten Pike's temples. And then we can just pretend that Sue is standing there next to him.

Oooooohhhh! Playing with those transitional years between the pilots,
eh? I've occasionally mentioned my own interest in that era. Very cool.

Yes -- tho some of the things I have in mind (as well as having no real choice about!) are bound to explode the heads of some of my fellow Trekkies. Those who insist we joined Kirk's Enterprise on Day One of the Five Year Mission, for instance. And this despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.

Dr. Piper shows up for a very practical reason: Paramount provides a list of all the actors who have signed off on the use of their likeness, and, alas, John Hoyt is not one of them. So Piper, in my story (if it happens) will be just recently assigned to Pike's crew. (I don't know if the time constraints of my story will allow it, but I have in mind a small scene where Pike stops by Sickbay for a chat and a drop of the true, only to learn his new Ship's Surgeon is a tee-totaller. A little in-joke for fans of THE RIFLEMAN.)

Checking the list this morning I also discovered Peter Duryea's name is not there, which means no way, Jose. Chris Ryall is of the opinion I may be able to use some of the supporting supporting players who have signed off, actors who played multiple roles for instance. Tempted to cast Hagan Beggs as the navigator, for a wee in-joke. (Beggs played the crippled Christopher Pike in "The Menagerie".)

All just speculation at this point, mind you, as I still don't have the maguffin I need to make my rather complex story come together. Lucky this won't be due for a while -- or even, if the first one bombs!!

Now then, Greg --- just how many things did I change in that image? Aside from Pike's temples in the second one, I mean.
