The relative dearth of easily accessible images of actors from sources other than Star Trek episodes (and I don't necessarily "count" screen captures combed DVD releases as easily accessible) probably means that "guest stars" would be more workable in illustrations to a prose story than as part of a comic book.

Any commercial release would be pretty fraught, though, because even if likeness rights were available, the source images would presumably be under separate copyright and/or license.

Yes, it's a veritable cascade of potential problems. Hardly worth the effort.

As for why Culp never appeared on STAR TREK, he just may not have had the time.  The final two seasons of I, SPY overlapped the first two seasons of STAR TREK, and BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE was released in September of '69.  The man was keeping pretty busy when STAR TREK was hiring guest stars.

One of his sons guest starred in an episode of DEEP SPACE NINE, though.

I finally took a peek at this thread last night, started reading from the
beginning before going to sleep, and just finished up after waking this
morning.

I'm looking forward to getting this book in December!

Well the October issue of Previews has the "Fotonovel" listed at a 7.99.
A very reasonable price if you ask me.

Can't think of a book I've wanted more than this one! So strange, but it's the combination of new original cast Star Trek and John Byrne storytelling-- basically the two best at what they do.

I don't think I will ever get used to the current prices. I've been rereading THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, in one of the hardcover editions I bought many a moon ago. This one sometime around 1969, based on the publication date. The price is written inside in pencil -- $5.95!

Some more experimenting...

Wondering if I can effectively use my 3D modeler to build "sets" for these photonovels. Here, a corridor aboard a Klingon ship.

Some work will need to be done to match the grain of the original film stock, but I think it's possible.

Here's a tweak with some additional lighting elements, and an attempt made to match the grain.

Plus, another angle.

Sure gonna be frustrating if nothing happens with all this!!

It works! Is there enough stock photo of Romulan ships out there or will you have to give the same treatment to them?

Not a lot of shots of Klingon ships -- not Romulan -- of the right vintage actually from the show. Not even the "remastered" CGI episodes are much use.

I may have to resort to using my old AMT model, and tweaking the images like crazy, if something comes to pass from all this.

-- not Romulan --

No, I know those are Klingon; It was my not so sly way of asking if you'll be playing with Romulans again.
