Our own Bill Roberge has just posted some early pre-pro Byrne drawings in his CAF gallery. They are mostly Star Trek and robot related. The most interesting thing to me, is looking at his signature evolve from drawing to drawing. There are a few signature styles that I have never seen before.

Thanks to Bill for sharing!

That's some seriously ancient stuff! The robots and STAR TREK pieces date from when I was in my middle to late teens!!

If your X-MEN era artwork bothers you today this pre-pro work must really make your teeth itch...

Still it's interesting to see how you have changed...I never had a talent for drawing and it fascinates me no end.

It's interesting to me to see the influences that poke thru. At this point in my life I had not seen any work by Neal Adams or John Buscema, for instance.

The robots are obviously heavily influenced by Russ Manning. About fifteen years later, I had the pleasure of meeting him at a San Diego con, and was able to thank him for the pleasures his work brought to my formative years.

Wow, Thats what I get for doing some yard work! I didn't get to post these in the art thread yet! :)

I love seeing the journey JB's art has taken him, also, trying to guess where it is leading him.

Very cool to see some early JB works. Jerry Lewis would be proud of that Nutty Professor sketch.

It's fun to see things like Jerry Lewis's "The Nutty Professor" character.

I have a few John Byrne IDW Star Treks. I was a little disappointed when it's not a John Byrne regular monthly Star Trek instead of some minis, but it's of course economics involved and shit. The faces, Nixon and the rest, are fantastic.
