JB,
Every day you work in your studio surrounded by works of art, from Kirby pages to countless statues inspired by othe artists. Does this affect your craft in any way, and if so, how? Thanks.
Michael

Hard to imagine there could be NO influence, but just how much influence there is, or the form it takes, I cannot say.

Thanks for the reply.
Independent of the artistic influence, how does it make you FEEL? Is there ever a part of you that thinks that some years from now there might be an artist sitting in a room with your pages on the wall, looking at Byrne-inspired statues?
Personally, I can't imagine how that might feel! Thanks again.

As I've noted before, here in the Forum, the idea that to fans and readers around the world Alpha Flight is every bit as "real" as the Fantastic Four is quite mind-boggling.

Hell, in the artist circles I always found myself in, it was rare if someone didn't have JB's stuff on a wall or taped to their drafting tables. And that was years ago. When artists were actually inspired by other artists, not influenced by what they could get away with in Photoshop.
I, myself, keep stacks of JB titles handy in case I need reference for something (as I mentioned over in the Cityscapes thread).

I'm looking at Alpha Flight #1 right now!
I have a studio question though JB, do you prefer silence or background noise such as music/tv while you work?

The girlfriend of a fellow artist once dropped by (she was friends with my wife) as I was setting up my Studio in a new house. Looking around, she asked where I was going to put the TV. She was astonished when I said I did not have one in my Studio.

JB (or any artists reading this), have you ever played music while you were drawing? If so, did you ever find yourself penciling or inking "in time" to the beat of whatever song happened to be playing? I've done that on numerous occasions and it always makes me chuckle.

I've worked in silence (except for occasional short sojourns by way of experimentation over the years) since around 1977.

I wonder if a certain type of music would make subtle changes to your art over time? Wouldn't it be interesting if jazz slightly altered your style in a different way than, say, classical?
