BTW, the Lawnmower Man Portfolio is drawn by Uncle Walt as well.

••

Such a terrible job he did, tho! I mean, NOBODY in that story looks like Pierce Brosnan!!!

According to the above link the NEW GODS Artist Edition should be in stores in a "couple of weeks".

I realize a lot goes into these books, but man I wish the dates didn't
bounce around so much.

Thanks for the link, Joe!

As much as I love them, I just can't justify the coin to buy them.  Mortgage in Los Angeles and all.  So I live vicariously through those of you who can and do purchase them.  I did get the JB FF AE, however, and it's a thing a beauty.

For the most part, I'm with ya Matt!  The only one I own as of now is the Romita Spider-Man edition.  I justified it by getting the (even more expensive) special edition that included autographs (Lee and Romita) and a pencil sketch from Romita himself.  I love Kirby and especially his NEW GODS stuff so I really have to buy this one!  Other than that, I can resist.

It appears or companies are looking to muscle in on IDW's turf.

Dark Horse Gallery Edition

Dynamite Art
Edition

DC Gallery Editions

I guess if these books are of the same quality as IDW's, we as fans of
this format win. But, IDW and Scott do such an amazing job with
these books from both there content and design, I hate that others
might try to take a good thing and possibly turn the format to into
something not quite as special.

Also, since other companies are getting in on the act with there own
products, I can see this limiting IDW's ability to put these together.

A small company tried to do a Barry Windsor Smith CONAN: RED
NAILS edition and botched the job pretty badly.

I'm not saying I'd never pick up a book from one of these, but they've
got A LOT to prove. IDW has set the bar ridiculously high and in the
case of DC, they can't seem to get there large Omnibus editions right,
so I'm concerned there efforts might just muddy the waters. I would
have to see the product before I'd spend my hard earned money
elsewhere.

How does Apple's predictive text take "other" and turn it into "or"? I
watch the screen as I typed the word and it still did it.

I mentioned the Dark Horse art edition on page 5, I'm picking that one up. Have to wait and see what else they'll be releasing, hopefully further editions of Mignola's Hellboy will be coming, either from them or IDW.

I don't see Dynamite having too much that would interest me, at least as far as the comics they've published.

According to the article, Graphitti Designs are doing the DC editions, and not DC itself. Definitely picking up some of those editions, Graphitti does some nice work.

I love Walt but I can't see myself putting out big money for The
Lawnmower Man adaptation. Manhunter I'm all in. Robocop vs.
Terminator? Maybe. Walt is going to have the most collections based
on the fact he has almost all of his work.
I just hope the companies don't go overboard with too many collections
that flood the market. I like that they are few and far between. Makes it
easier to cough up $100-$150 a collection. Oh who am I kidding? This is
the comic book market. All they know how to do is over saturate the
market until people get sick of or can't afford the product.

Supply and demand guys. The market will adjust accordingly.
We may see over saturation initially, due to how "hot" this
product is, but the weak and poor quality will eventually
be whittled out if the stuff isn't purchased.

As for IDW, I didn't even seriously consider buying an AE
volume until the first few were out and the Mazzuchelli
book was offered. At that point, I knew the quality of
production and his work had me making the jump. I have 5
volumes now. I will likely wait and see about both quality
of production and material being collected before I buy
another company's collection.
