Wow!  I'll bet that art for the other issues exists, but that it's spread out amongst too many different collectors to assemble easily.  It's a lot easier to coordinate these books when most of the art comes from a single source.

A late Christmas present for those who ordered the second printing of
the Walt Simonson THOR: Artist's Edition. It should be in stores Dec.
31.

The new PREVIEWS is out. This month IDW is offering (drum roll)...
CHARLES SCHULZ'S PEANUTS ARTIST'S EDITION.

I'm really happy about this. To me, it proves that IDW is using the
Artist's Editions as way to celebrate the entire medium, not just
superhero books and the artists who do them. You would be hard
pressed to find one who would debate that PEANUTS is the greatest
comic strip of our time.

Also, I picked up my WALT SIMONSON'S THOR ARTIST'S EDITION.
Can anyone verify if IDW was offering a variant cover for the second
printing? Because, that's what it says on the back cover of my book.

I don't know about you guys, but the Artist's Editions I have don't get read. Oh, I try to read them... but then my eyes get distracted by the details on the art, and I find myself just looking at page after page without reading anything but the artist/writer/editor/etc notes.

It's very nice to have the word balloons filled in, and narration boxes present... but I think it'll be a while before I can make use of them because everything else is just too damn interesting to see!

••

Remember, these are ARTIST'S editions. They are not really designed to be read. The one collecting my FF work, for instance, contains whole issues, but not whole stories.

Incidentally, "narration boxes" are called captions. Kinda dull, I know, but there it is!

It doesn't really matter if you read them or not as long as you get the jaw-dropping experience which they were created for.

I can't wait for the Kirby's Artist Edition!

I would also suggest a Jack Kirby Super Powers Artist's Edition.

It is Kirby's last interior work and the inker did not ink over the pencils so we get untouched Kirby pencils.  JB used to own the entire final issue 6 (aka Kirby's final pencilled interiors).  I also saw the complete issue 5 in Heritage so they have scans of every page.

The problem would be putting in the word balloons since those are not in the pencils. Perhaps an artist's edition side-by-side with the inked page? I really don't know but IDW should figure out a creative way to do that.

Also, I heard Mazzuchelli still has original art to year one. That would make a good Artist's Edition too.

IMO the Kirby Holy Grail would the Inhumams issues, the Sulver
Surfer/Galactus saga and "This Man, This Monster."

My top Byrne request to IDW, Scott Dunbier and Chris Ryall is a X-Men: Hidden Years Artist's Edition.  The combination of the original X-Men by JB, with Tom Palmer luscious inks, is irresistible to me.  I daresay I like Hidden Years better than JB's original Uncanny run all those years ago.

Still would like to see a Ditko edition, and a Toth.  Probably no market, and impossible to find the artwork, but a Mort Meskin.

Come to think of it, the multi-volume Toth biographical volumes probably come close enough to doing the job of an Artist's Edition.

IDW will be releasing in March Kirby's New Gods artist edition. I just discovered this today. It was in the December issue of Previews. I think it's safe to say everyone here will be interested in this.
