That is a punch! I particularly like house Superman's cape is wrapping around him from the punch.

"Has this matchup ever appeared in a cross-company comic?"

There was a Superman/ Hulk one shot by Roger Stern and Steve Rude a number of years ago.

Was this done with a PITT pen?

••

Yup -- an XS for the Hulk's face, an F for Superman's hands, belt and emblem, and a B for everything else.

The Hulk and Superman went at it in the second Superman/Spider-Man team-up as well. The DC vs. Marvel mini-series also had them at odds, although at the time it was Mulletman vs. Professor Hulk.

Great work!

It sort of reminds of the scene from the 2nd Superman/Spider-Man xover where Hulk sucker-punched Superman with the "condensed force of an H-bomb!"   Hulk smash puny Cape Man!

As I was working on this piece, I found myself wondering about whether it could "really" happen. As my title suggests, it would certainly have to be a sucker punch, one Superman was unprepared for -- but would it really be possible for the Hulk to sucker punch Superman? Not exactly known for his stealth abilities, our Green Goliath!

And this raises a second point -- assuming the Hulk could land that punch, what effect would it have? Superman's "super reflexes" would theoretically allow him to REACT to the hit at the exact moment he felt it. Unlike thee and me, who'd be in orbit before we even noticed we'd been hit!

This is, of course, why "artistic license" is so important in the realm of superhero fiction. If we start thinking about how these characters and their powers would "really" work --- well, pretty much NOTHING would get done!!

Yes, if we thought about it no one without super-speed should be able to deal with Superman on a physical level.  In the old xover, Hulk sucker punched Superman by playing dead under some rubble.

JB, I've noticed in your Superman commissions you sort of have two Supermans, IMO.

This one and the one where he battles Darkseid looks practically just like the Superman as I remember him from your MOS days.

In many other commissions, you Superman looks different.  Older, different face, different cut of the costume.

Is this purposeful or are you aware of any difference?
