I wish that instead of doing the Essentials line, they started out with a color-newsprint-reprint-phonebooks from the get-go. I imagine it was feasable back then ... it's not a great technological challenge.

This seems like a good place to confess my obsession and see if anyone wants to join ESSENTIALS ANONYMOUS with me.

This is the stack of Essentials/Showcase volumes I'm currently reading:

Wah! Nice. And a whole heck of a lot more accessible than a longbox full of old comics.

Good stuff, Joe. I have a stack that size that's been in the waiting stack
for little bit!

I just remembered Paul should be delivering another four volumes to me next month!  Ha!  I should get to those by 2029 I would say.

We meet on Tuesday evenings in the Municipal Building basement....(Essentials Anonymous) if anyone is interested....

At last count I was closing in about 120 different volumes of ESSENTIALS, along with about 60 SHOWCASE PRESENTS.

I forget how many Paul had ordered for me. Joe and I can have a
competition to see who takes longer to read their backlog.

The Epic Collections have just about the same amount of content as the Essentials, don't they?  Roughly twenty issues, but you're paying twice as much for a more durable, full-color volume that takes up less space on your bookshelf.  Twice as many pages as the mostly-gone DC Archives format, with better production values, and at a cheaper price.  Until that format gets discontinued.
