That's a Punisher that interests me. One with a very slight, wry sense of humor. He realizes just how absurd the world is.

JB is right. Punisher works as a villain, albeit one motivated by a drive for vengeance that places him at odds with the heroes in whose books he may appear. He might be going after the same bad guy, but he does so to finish off the bad guy himself.

I remember those issues when he first appeared. 

He was tricked into thinking Spider-Man was bad guy by the Jackal.

I liked him as a bad guy.  He provided an interesting counterpoint to our Heroes.  He defined what the difference between being a hero and being a vigilante was.

I never followed him as a hero because he did not make sense as one.  He is a murderer.
