Apologies if this was a deleted topic and I didn't realize it.
So, last week Amazon announced that they were buying Comixology. LINK.
I was concerned for a moment about the monopoly implications, but then I remembered that Diamond has basically had one over physical comics distribution for well over a decade, so in the end not much would likely change.
On the bright side, as one that has been leery of diving into DRM- encumbered media, Amazon going out of business seems much less likely than Comixology did (such a situation could render your investment worthless and unreadable). So I might be more willing to take the plunge on larger purchases, now.
I would hope that Amazon would not try something stupid like attempt to force the usage of their Kindles for future digital comics purchases, but since they have so far remained cross-platform for their other media offerings, that seems unlikely.
Thoughts?

I have purchased a few graphic novels through the Kindle (cheaper, with my Prime discount, than Comixology) and I thought the process was not as smooth as the comics app. If they improve the experience, I would have no problem viewing comics through the Kindle.
I should clarify that I don't own the Kindle but use the iPad app.

My biggest wish for digital comics is an extension of the back issue catalogue. Comixology has severe gaps in a number of major series that need plugging. Perhaps this acquisition will give them the resources they need to fill in more of these holes.

I keep hoping for a comic book version of Next Issue, which is like Netflix for magazines. For a flat monthly rate, I get unlimited access to dozens of magazines and back issues.

I'd like it if say, I were to buy all the Triple Helix comics on comixology (as an example) that when the TPB comes out, i get a little discount code to buy it on amazon.

I'm going to be optimistic and call this Good News.
As Amazon already has a book self-publishing service, I cannot see why they would not maintain Comixology's recent adoption of that practice.
With any luck, Diamond's monopoly on distribution (and the absurd fees they charge) may be getting a well-deserved end-around. Digital though it may be. Comixology has a 50/50 deal with creators which means a creator can make more selling a book for $2.00 than you can the paper graphic novel version for $12.
As Vinny quite rightly points out, Amazon looks to be here to stay, which is certainly helpful to preserve your investment.

I have purchased graphic novels from both, and also found Comixology`s reading experience easier and more intuitive than Amazon,so hopefully we will see an improvement in Amazon`s user experience.

Perhaps now Comixology's odd issues with certain banks will get ironed out. It's the only online site I frequently have trouble making purchases on. I asked them about it and they told me it was some issue with how their service interacts with my particular bank. It's strange because it comes and goes; sometimes I can make purchases and sometimes I can't.

I haven't ventured at all into the digital format for comics since I buy so few in a year. If there was a way to get a digital copy of the books I already own at a reduced price that would get me started and might lead to me buying more. I think the digital format is very stable now with the purchase of Amazon, but I do love the paper, Ben-Day dots and feel of a book in my hands.

I am hoping (wishing really, don't think it would happen) for an extension of the Amazon Prime just like I get to stream (and not keep) a ton of older shows and movies...I would totally wade into digital content. Read it and move on.
