Nature called in the wee hours of the morning, and as I stumbled back to bed I glanced out the window to see a large, bright light behind the clouds. Didn't have my glasses on, and thought "The Moon. . . " before returning to my slumbers.

This morning, tho, when I let Gwynn out, and followed her onto the terrace as I usually do, I saw the Moon still in the sky, and higher than the light had been.

Did I miss a supernova? That would be a bummer!*

___________

* No, I know the light from such an event would last days, even weeks, not hours.

Sounds like it was ultimate enlightenment. Probably shouldn't have gone back to bed, JB.

A quick google search shows no strange lighting phenomenon being reported on the east coast of the US recently in the news. No astrological event worthy of the news either, like Jupiter igniting into a second star in our solar system.

Since no obvious logical explanation is at hand, it's clear that we must turn to supernatural causes. Do you live near a cemetery?

I knew it wouldn't be too long before you saw the light, JB.

Could've been a metorite. Sometimes, those can pass mostly unnoticed, except by a few lucky witnesses who happen to be awake. On the other hand, your place could've been briefly illuminated by a low-flying airplane (passenger jets sometimes take odd flight paths when they're making holding loops).

Methinks you were abducted by aliens and they dropped you off to pee.

Is it possible that you did see the moon, the first time being shortly after moonrise in the early morning, and continuing to rise to the position where you viewed it the second time?
