I was going to wait until next week to post this, but my next week is shaping up to be a super busy one, so....
Next week will mark the 10th anniversary of me "managing" the JBF Gallery. I took some initiative and starting with a few dozen images in a "Gallery" thread on the old Net54 Forum, threw together some scripts and web pages to create a proper gallery to go along with the new John Byrne Forum.
Over a 5 year period (4 years and 11 months to be a little more accurate), those few dozen images had exploded to over 4000 images in 163 categories and sub-categories.
In March of 2009, after recovering from a software crash that nearly destroyed the gallery (thank God for backups!), I sought out some new software, modified it quite a bit, and in April of 2009, launched Gallery 2.0, which is still chugging along today.
Today, there are over 6500 images in 305 categories and sub-categories, featuring samplings of John's artwork from 1952 (the chalk choo-choo train) to his latest and greatest commissions.
It's been a fun 10 years -- thanks a lot to all of you that have sent me images over the years, you've helped make this gallery one of the most comprehensive and popular comic book artist galleries on the 'net. And most especially, thanks to our host who has provided us lots of pretty pictures to look at. The images in the gallery are just a small percentage of his portfolio, there's a lot more out there waiting to be discovered!
As the saying goes, if a picture says a 1000 words, then John Byrne must never shut up.
