Andy, it's worth the money. Feels like you're reading an old STAR TREK episode.

Yeah, I enjoy the format quite a bit and have about 15 of the Fotonovel paperbacks that...Bantam?  did years ago.  Comic book size would be much easier to read but my choice is more about my finances than about the value of the comic.

48 pages for eight bucks, isn't bad at all. Looking forward to next week!

I understand that. I'll be picking it up but between it and my IDW Artist
Edition, I'm gonna have to sell one of my kidneys.

Also, as good as the old Bantam Fotonovels were, or ANY Star Trek
novel, JB does the best job of any author I've ever read of getting the
individual character's speech right. If you read his work with the
actors' cadences, it reads perfectly. Most writers try too hard and
everyone reads like a parody of themselves. It's probably the best
compliment I can give about his ability to write for this franchise.

Totally agree.  That's comparable to a regular book - it's about two comic books in length.

I have been picking up the old Bantam Photonovels for about $2 each, and they are so poorly assembled I feel i am getting ripped off even at $2!!  The thought balloons are just painful to read.

JB's STAR TREK photonovel is a must - it's such a unique project.  Photomontage is a good idea, but in the wrong hands it could be a disaster.  JB brings a career of visual storytelling to the project, and it really makes a difference.  You forget you're reading a photomontage and get wrapped up in the story pretty quickly.

Thanks! I feel like I've been building to this series since the first time I tried to draw a STAR TREK comic back in the Sixties. So many times since I have wanted to scratch that itch, but my virtually non-existent skills with likenesses has seemed an insurmountable hurdle.

Hurdle surmounted!

Also, good to read the positive comments on the character "voices." When I attempted those TREK comics as a teenager, a friend read some pages and said all the characters "sound(ed) the same." I had no idea what he was talking about! In my head they all sounded like themselves. Whether they did, and my friend was just off his chump, or whether I have finally figured it out for reals -- well, whatever the reason, it's gratifying to read the responses.

(For the most part, I do hear the actors speaking in my head when I type their dialog -- but there is a trap, there, too! I have to be constantly vigilant against re-using actual lines. That way lies accidental parody.)

I'm still waiting for my LCS to come through with a copy of Triple Helix #1, so I have a JB fix coming someday.

And JB, I have been having a time recognizing you since your switch to the generic member avatar.

You have two Tumbler fan pages related to each other that I know of.
In looking for artwork of yours to use as wallpaper for my iPad, I've run
into it a couple of times.

One is under JohnByrneSays, the other is under JohnByrneDraws.
They seem to be run by a fan. I don't know if he's a member here or
not. Personally, I don't see there's a need to go there when this forum
pretty much gives a fan everything they could hope for.

If you wish to delete this post after reading, I totally understand.
