Classic.

Do you use a tool for the oval around your signature, or can you just
do that free hand?

Love the pose on this one. Never gets tired of seeing my favorite character in such good hands.

Congratuations, Mike. You have great taste. That commission that JB added in the link is mine.

Q4JB: about your signature -- do you sign your name over the oval or
do you wrap the oval "around" your sig? (Kind of a chicken or the egg
question)

I really like the cigar smoking Thing -- something long gone from Marvel comics

I prefer the original costumes -- but I also prefer the Byrne-Clay Thing.

Well, if the commissioner is getting the other 3 members of the team - maybe some white paint on the belt and then shade the trunks would fix the original request so the customer doesn;t have to alter their plan of costumes?

JB, a question

Do you have any tricks when drawing the Thing's hide?  There are a hand full of artists who seem to get it right, you being one of course The size, flow and shading off the individual "pieces" seem to trip people up.

A mistake many artists -- and especially modern colorists -- make, is thinking of Ben's hide as resembling cobblestones. That is, shading each segment as if it bulges outward in the center. But a close study of what Kirby was doing suggests something more like a dry riverbed. Also, the plates should look as if they overlap, so they can slide across each other when Ben moves.

Cobblestones:

I like the way it looks like Ben is posing for the viewer, but with a little twinkle in his eyes.
