It's been a long time since we did one of these.
Name three comicbook runs that you think are underrated.
It can be Marvel, DC or an independent. It doesn't matter.
Current runs are acceptable. Runs must have had at least six issues
published.

Mine:
Jurgens/JRJr. -Thor.
This probably my favorite run on the character other than Walt
Simonson's. I thought it did an excellent job of mixing the superhero
stories with the more Norse mythology based ones.

Chris Roberson/Bilquis Evely -Doc Savage
This is the current run put out by Dynamite. I went in skeptical,
knowing a good Doc comic hadn't been done since the Buscema
Marvel Magazine. If you're a fan of Doc Savage and you're not
reading it, I think you're missing out.

Barr/ Davis- Detective Comics
It's my thought that the BATMAN title at the time was a bit
underwhelming. But, that short run by Barr and Davis was just
exceptional.

My answer to this question is always:

Ron Frenz/Tom DeFalco- THOR

Everyone raves (appropriately so) about Walt Simonson and the classic Kirby/Lee issues and the spectacular run by Frenz/DeFalco gets lost in the shuffle.

Not sure if it went "under-rated" or not -- but I REALLY loved the John Buscema/Tom Palmer art on Avengers in the late 80s.  Not sure who the writer was.

Ron Frenz Thor -- I agree, 100%

Then, I think it was Ron Lim who did a nice stretch on Silver Surfer late 80s/early 90s that was a lot of fun.

I'll agree with that Thor run and those issues of Silver Surfer. Both were do much fun.  Here's 3 I've enjoyed and were perhaps underrated
1- Elementals by Willingham
2- Wonder Woman by Simone
3- Batman by Starlin

I really enjoyed Simone's WW, though it was short. Starlin's Batman is something I'm only now reading at length. I had only read a few scattered issues previously.  Possible that I'm just way late and the rest of you know what I missed!  Elementals was so different when I stumbled upon it.  Fell apart after Willingham left, but loved his work there.

@Leigh and Geoffrey - While Bob Harras wrote some Avengers, I believe Geoffrey was referring to the Roger Stern written Avengers issues.

Roger Stern up to issue #285 or so. That stuff was GREAT! Various others for a while after that (Ralph Machio, Mark Gruenwald, Walt Simonson). Bob Harris didn't work on Avengers until the 90's. So the heroes started wearing jackets naturally! And I think Buscema was gone by then (Tom Palmer continued to be the inker).

Oh and I always mention the CrossGen book Negation as just a fantastic title. My favorite book of the time while it was being produced.

Justice League circa the #220s, when Chuck Patton was the primary penciler.  This was right before the switch to the Detroit-era League.

My favorite run of the JLA.

Steve Epting was the penciller for most of Bob Harras's 90's run on 'Avengers,' it's an under-rated run to me as I enjoyed it immensely (and discvovered Epting's art to boot.)

1. Grant/Wagner & Breyfogle on Detective Comics in the late 80s and early nineties. Mostly self-contained, noirish, almost subversive tales. Nothing epic, nothing monumental, just good honest detective stories, like it said on the cover.
2. Jackson Guice's run on New Mutants (with Chris Claremont, natch). I really liked the artwork, most of it under the inks of Kyle Baker. It culminated in a great double-sized issue with the team taking on Magus with the help of Professor X.

And I can't really think of a third... I'd have included Defalco/Frenz on ASM, but I'm not sure I can call it underrated.
