I think there's also the argument that we shouldn't be spending our treasure and resources on those little baby-steps to the stars when we're dealing with poverty and starvation at home. That seems to be the major theme with the anti-exploration pundits who get air time here.

When I was in Art College, I saw a black light poster (which I cannot find online) that addressed this. In the foreground was a typical Spanish galleon. Behind it, a launching Saturn V. The text read something like "Suppose Isabella Had Said No?"

Space exploration has led to break-throughs that have aided humanity in other fields so there's that too.

Based on where I was living at the time, I guess it must have been a 10th anniversary special, hosted by Walter Cronkite, that began with words I could not have imagined hearing in my lifetime: "We don't go to the Moon anymore."

As he spoke those gloomy syllables, Cronkite stood on the disused launch pad that had sent Apollo XI on its way -- now rusting and covered with weeds.

Interesting thing about that FF page, is that it quotes Armstrong's famous words as I heard them, live, all those years ago. There was no doubt in my mind he was taking "one small step for a man."

One of my early memories was running outside after watching  the lunar landing where some of the "older " kids had gathered around a visible afternoon moon, pointing at it and saying they could see the American Flag.
I struggled for several minutes to find it.,alas without success. Boy what a sucker I was.

Don't feel too bad. After reading FANTASTIC FOUR 13, I waited for Moonrise and went in the back yard to look for the Blue Area.

Not being able to locate it, I decided it must be visible only from more southern latitudes.

I used the quote "suppose isabella said no" and got a link that gave Kelly Freas' name, so I searched again with "suppose isabella said no kelly freas" and checked the images. Only one popped up that fit your description.
