Corsair didn't look 'fast' standing still as much as it looked like it would kick you in the balls.
But when she was airborne......she was fast and mean.
I mean c'mon! Lookit dem wings!

Thanks for the photos David. My Dad knew how much I loved the Corsair and got me three die cast toys along with three Japanese Zeros to shoot down. The man was a student of WWII, both theaters. Though, I think he found the Pacific theater was more interesting. His second favorite plane was the P-40. He got to meet many of the Flying Tigers before they died.
And I agree, the Corsair was one tough looking plane.

My vote goes to two British Cold War nuclear "V Bombers" - the Avro Vulcan and the Handley Page Victor. As long as they're in anti-flash white:

That Victor is so pretty.
It looks like something superheroes would fly in.....
I fell in love with the Vulcan when I saw Thunderball as a kid.

Just one more photo from Vintage Aircraft Weekend, for Stephen: ====== Thanks, Bill!
These remind me of some good times going to the AirShow in Belle Chasse just South of New Orleans. Dad loved vintage planes. You guys have managed to post all of his favorites. We would go every year and see all the cool planes. The show was pretty big so the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds would alternate years. I remember one year an F-14 Tomcat did a knife edge flyby. That plane is a lot bigger than you think.

Modern day fighters are HUGE! I saw an F-14 demonstration years ago and it was a major thrill! The big air superiority birds like Tomcat and Eagle in particular. The F-16 is dainty in comparison.
The Selfridge Air Show is coming up next weekend here in the Detroit area. I will be sure to post any choice pics I take.
Informal poll:
Blue Angels or Thunderbirds? I'm partial to Naval air power so my vote goes to the Blues. They will be doing their thing at Selfridge this year!

I live 10 miles from Udvar Hazy Air & Space. It's free, but they charge 15 for parking. I am glad for this because I would be there every day otherwise.

I attended the Selfridge Open House this past weekend. Overall an okay show, but I was bummed about the lack for frontline aircraft on static display and in flight demos. The very first Selfridge show I attended over 15 years ago was LOADED with tons of the US inventories heavy hitters. And each year there are fewer and fewer of the most exciting aircraft on display.
The Blue Angels were exciting as always (the Thunderbirds F-16 was on static display). There is no more exciting sound than an angry jet fighter on afterburner. A Ferrari v12 Formula One engine comes close….
Just a few pics to share. I will have to download my phone for the balance.
