Even though I'm an atheist, love science, etc., etc.,I still don't like the idea of boiling magic down to extremely advanced science in every circumstance. I think that can work, but there is nothing wrong with actual magic and supernatural phenomena existing in the realms of our imaginations.

Science. Magic is too wishy-washy and undefined - why can't other characeters say an incantation and have it work, etc.?

When it comes to superhero ccomics, I tend to lean towards science-
based characters. My perspective may be skewed since there seems to
be a lot more of them though. Oh, and for years my favorite DC
superhero was Captain Marvel, sooo...

That's a tough one. I like a good mix, but if we're just talking comics then science wins. As close to reality as possible for my superheroes makes the fantasy that much greater.

Its all just make believe, I'm down with all of it. Hmm.. Would Dr. Doom be considered Mystiscience?

I prefer science based heroes, but funny thing is, I
don't automatically place Thor, Hercules, Wonder Woman,
with the mystic super-heroes.

Maybe Greek/Norse mythological origins is the one sub-set
of mystical that I view through different eyes than
Doctor Strange/Doctor Fate/Hellboy.

And then there is the New Gods; are they science based
characters or mystic based characters?

Of course, I could make an argument that things like the
Source, Power Cosmic, the Green Energy, Cosmic Cube are
really just magic with science sounding names.

But I like them all better than Doctor Strange's world.

I suppose one could place Kirby characters like Thor or the New Gods under "magic that looks like super-science." Those characters DO have clear limits on their powers.

(Another exception for me: John Constantine, although a) he's more antihero than hero, and b) his powers are quite limited.)

Certainly in comics, I have never held any great affinity for magical characters like Dr Strange or Thor. So I'd have to say I prefer 'science' (I'd say more sci-fi fantasy) characters like the FF and the Hulk.

My favourite villain is Dr Doom, though, who uses both science and magic. Tellingly, I prefer the science angle for Dr Doom.

As Thomas Dolby would put it -

"Science!"

Tough question. I like both very much, but I'll have to go with science since more characters with science-based origins or storylines come to mind first.
