I'm a little disturbed by Spider-Woman's face - borderline Michael Jackson nose and a bad collagen lip job.

Yuck.

"Looks like a diaper to me."

Exactly.

BTW, Why do people think it's OK to "correct" artwork drawn by someone else using Photoshop, then put it online?

If you don't like it, fine, but don't deface it.

Back tho the first post.  I don't think it's sexist. I don't like it myself.

Male superheroes are not typically depicted in a sexualized pose like this, yet it is commonplace for female superheroes to be.  Isn't such a double standard indicative of sexism?

So, sure, it's not likely that Spider-Woman would stick her bum up in the air and HOLD it there -- especially without an audience! -- but she might very well pass thru that position just for a moment.
---------------------------------------
I think it's more likely the spine would bend the other way though. Bending it in like that and flexing the hips back to thrust her backside in the air doesn't conjure up athleticism (to me) and instead has more suggestive and submissive connotations. If it was a regular artist, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm less inclined to, given Manara's body of work.

That said, I still think it is storm in a teacup territory.

It must be in the job description. Either that or those spider outfits really ride up.

Milo Manara is a great artist who should not be drawing the covers of superhero comics, period.

I took a look at Milo other art. I think in the end, it's only the pose that people are responding too. He has drawn other Marvel women with his own style but they don't come across as anything extreme in the least.

Why, exactly?

JB>>especially without an audience!<<

I was drinking soda when I read this.  Thanks a bunch JB.

Seriously, does anybody hire Milo Manara to draw non-sexy women?  When he draws women standing around they look sexy.  It's kinda his thing.

Reminds me of in Blade 3 when they hired Patton Oswalt to stand around and not talk.  If you ever want to see a guy give an uncomfortable look as if to say, "Uh-oh, am I in in  this scene?

[edited for spelling]

Thank you Anthony J Lombardi for posting that Spidey shot. As there have been tonnes of Spider-man drawings like that over the years. (The 90es in particular are full of them) and there certainly wasn't any of this kind of kerfuffle over them like this has been. It strikes me more and more that there seems to be a certain type of fan or internet blogger who always seems to want to create a controversy out of nothing almost in a kind of desperate.."oh aren't I so mature/politically correct now? So geek girls aren't you impressed by me?.." (There's a guy on Badass Digest who does it all the time)

So yeah I absolutely agree with the original poster James on this.
And this particular art, I actually don't have a problem with at all. And I am a little baffled at people being surprised at the notion of a sexy Spiderwoman. She's always been like that. She's not exactly Squirrel girl y'know. Heck part of her power set is getting guys attracted to her. And the costume has always been portrayed as skin tight, (I mean c'mon you can usually see her belly button in it!) not to mention the entire design of the front of it brings attention to her female parts. So why are people only now being up in arms over a sexualised Spiderwoman? Heck have a look at the cheesecake covers on her original series. At least she's not tied up in this one!

In short, A heroine can be sexy AND strong. Those two concepts are not mutually exclusive!
