But the harsh reality is, Howard was a flash in the pan. Anyone not totally enamored of the character should have been able to see that.

I can.

Although I'd have been a kid at the time, I'm historically aware. I've read the Essential volume for Howard and various back issues - and from my perspective, it appears to be very much a product of it's era.

I've been working through *loads* of Essential volumes lately. Sure, hairstyles, fashions and topical references set a story clearly in one year/decade, but they are timeless in a sense. The Howard the Duck stories are very topical and belong in that time.

Very cool but I have most of those Masterworks so will have to pass...Definitely going to get the Not Brand Ecch..loved seeing those covers on the spinner racks . I never caught on to Howard the Duck , but man , would love if they could somehow find a way to reprint those early Shang-Chi MOKF stories.

Yeah I have too many of the Masterworks also to warrant the purchase.
Not Brand Ecch! was before my time but an older neighbor kid gave me a couple of his issues. They were funny for the time.
Howard The Duck I read for the first few issues than I kind of drifted from it. I may try them both.

I really liked Howard the Duck comics and I didn't mind the movie (I saw it in the theatre when it was released) but i remember the ads going on and on about the amazing duck costume but when I saw it, it was obviously just a guy in a duck suit. I also wanted more innuendo between Howard and Beverly because after all, I was 14. I still have a soft spot for it.

Nice set, but like many, I have most of the Masterworks editions, (and
even many of the original comics), so I'll be passing on the set. I
might opt for Not Brand Ecch when it's released though.

As for Howard, I was a fan when I first starting buying comics, even
though a lot of it was over my head at the time. I have not read any
of the issues in years, so I don't know how the would hold up for me
now. Probably not very well...
