The Internet informs me of the passing of Stan Goldberg. I met Stan at the Cincinnati Comic Expo in 2011 and had one of my best experiences ever with a comicbook pro during our brief encounter.
I had him sign my Amazing Spider-Man Annual (with a fantastic Byrne cover) featuring a reprint of some comics he had colored for Marvel. He seemed genuinely proud of his work and happy to meet and chat with fans. What a nice guy.
He was doing head sketches for something like $5 I believe. I decided on Jughead and as he sketched he talked to me about what a likeable character Jughead was and what a good friend he made for Archie. Hence, the inscription on the finished piece:

He was a part of something that was very big in American comics. It's sad that I never got to meet the guy myself. RIP

Terry Austin and I were talking just yesterday of how close he must have been to the end. It has been a difficult ordeal for family and friends.
