I just read that issue again last week!!  I always thought it kind of neat that neither "strong-guy" from either team was there to fight Wendigo.  I also always enjoyed the stories when Kurt and Logan were getting into trouble together.

That kind of started here, at least as a conscious motif.

I spent my whole time on UNCANNY being not really sure what to do with Nightcrawler. He was so much Dave's character, and what made him interesting to me -- that he was a scary monster -- had long been pushed into deep, deep background. Even my attempt to bring this back a bit with his relationship with Kitty was lost in Chris' scripting, and quickly forgotten.

But while I was working on this story, something clicked in my brain, and I realized I could finally get a handle on Kurt if I thought of him as "Daffy Duck" to Logan's "Bugs Bunny". Hence the scene where Snowbird startles him, and he wraps himself around Wolverine.

But then I left the book!!

"Poor Kurt probably wishes that he had the Hulk's strength there. "

This raises a question, open to anyone, re: Kurt's powers. Has there
ever been any reference made as to the limits of just how much mass
Kurt is able to teleport? Does it work like regular human strength in
that the greater the mass he's trying to teleport, the greater the strain?
For instance, could he teleport someone/thing the size and weight of
Wendigo up into the air and then release him, in an attempt to knock
him senseless?

I seem to recall there being instances when JB was on the book where Kurt tried teleporting others, and it was always taxing for him to do so. I'm not sure if the upper limit was ever explored as I quit reading the X-men 20 years ago. Just guessing here, but I would think the Wendigo would be too large for him to teleport any great distance, if at all. Even if he could, say teleport him straight up he would probably put himself in danger from the fall simply because he would be so zonked in doing so.

I personally did not care for the idea of Kurt teleporting someone else AT ALL. Just seemed like too much chance of things getting. . . mixed together.

Poor Kurt probably wishes that he had the Hulk's strength there. Wendigo is practically oblivious.

Y'know what they say! If you're being attacked by a giant monster, hit it with a stick!

I haven't asked, but I have long assumed Trimpe was going for the look of the masks and totem figures of the Natives of the Pacific Northwest.

I never quite "got" Wendigo's look until this.  Very interesting: I can see it now.

Great commission!

After reading this Wolverine/Nightcrawler story I kept thinking that the Wendigo would have been a great recurring villain for the X-Men, with him popping up every once in a while and having Logan and one or two other X-Men having to go mano-a-mano with him. And of course it would give JB the chance to have Alpha Flight drop in on all of the fun :-)

Up to the old Marvel Handbook, no.
