,,,Also...

A few years ago, a friend told me of an experience he'd had while visiting some friends of his in San Francisco. He awoke early in the morning, and, wandering to the living room window (he was sleeping on the couch) looked out to see a flying saucer drifting lazily over the rooftops.*

He was absolutely sure this had happened, that it was not a dream, that he had woken, gotten up from the couch, walked to the window, looked out. I tried to explain the concept of lucid dreaming to him, but he wouldn't have it.

_______

* He told me this story when I told him the origin of the term "flying saucer," as a journalist's misrepresentation of the description given by the "first" witness to see and report one. He felt his story would prove me wrong, since what he had seen was a flying saucer.

Also, if it was early in the morning, it was probably Venus, which will flicker and wobble due to the morning air and depth of atmosphere at the horizon. Has confused many people.

My friend did not see a blob of light bobbling on the horizon. As stated, he saw a FLYING SAUCER gliding above the rooftops.

Hence my attempt to instruct him on lucid dreaming.

...I turned my head to see a meteor slice across the southern sky, tracking west to east. A big one, too!

John, did the meteor light up the sky in front of you as it passed?  My son and I were driving to a hockey game at night in Edmonton a few years ago when a meteor passed by us, massively lighting the sky (only for a second or two, but it seemed much longer).
