These are all great, the second Phoenix appeals to me the most. I've just spent ten minutes studying the way the highlights aid in suggesting the form.
I keep saying it but 'master-class' is all I can think of to describe the effect these have on me. Every time I see something new from John, it's like seeing things portrayed properly.

I can't wait for more---

Trying to decide which one of those Phoenix-drawings I like best. Can't. Love them both!

Jeffrey - There is so much of Perez in his costume designs! Grim Reaper is always a favorite.

Me - Actually, that costume has been around since Avengers v1 #78 - I don't believe Perez drew him until several years later.  Sal Buscema drew the issue where it first appeared, but Perez certainly did make it his own later on.

At any rate, it's a fabulous commission, I always like the Grim Reaper, up until the point where they decided to kill him off and resurrect him.  (I did like the Grim Reaper/Legion of the Unliving story in Avengers v3 by Busiek and Perez however).

George has a magical way of making characters his own. Every time I draw Ultron, I feel like I'm channeling George.

I was fortunate enough to catch onto the Avengers just before George Perez took over in #141.

There were a lot of great artists working on the regular title and the Giant-Size issues (George Tuska, Sal Buscema & Joe Staton, Dave Cockrum, John Buscema, Don Heck, Bob Brown) but Perez was easily my favorite.

You can really tell what a big fan he is, and it was great watching his art mature as he went from this -

to this -

In a little over a year.

JB -

I think your art style took a similar leap forward while you were drawing Iron Fist in the '70s.

From Iron Fist #1 (November, 1975 cover date) -

And fro Iron Fist #12 (April, 1977 cover date) -

Nice set of commissions.  Great work on Grim Reaper.  Really love how you can make me interested in a character I had no previous interest in.

Robert - That costume just screams Perez to me, I forgot it showed up so much earlier than George! That Squadron Supreme issue was my first Avengers issue. What a great start!

Or trapped by an inescapable web of nostalgia.

This is the real problem -- so many fans who cannot break free of perceptions formed when they were 12 (the golden age of comics!). Sometimes, I even get the impression that some of those claiming my old stuff was better" are operating purely from memory. They haven't really LOOKED at the "old stuff" in years.
