If the original was red, I fail to see how changing it to the blue variant is anything more than aesthetic preference.

It would appear the intent here is, well, intent. Putting the characters in the colors intended by the designers of the costumes. The black Angel costume by Neal Adams, the black and white School Uniform intended by Kirby. The top of Wolverine's head is still too bright a yellow, tho, and merely coloring Angel's boots blue falls far short of capturing the original.

Anyone know why they went with black & yellow uniforms rather than black & white?•• I was not there at the time, but in later years I had many a battle with some colorists over areas I wanted left white. Yellow, it was insisted, was "brighter". I'd bet that was the same thinking with the X-Men uniforms.

I saw the art online -- I thought people on this site might find the new color interesting because it followed the color notes found on the original art.

This wasn't the reason but when I was a kid I always associated the X-Men yellow and black costumes with this...
