This is going back a while, but I couldn't use my Gmail account and had to use my Comcast account to join the forum. I just have my Comcast email forward to my Gmail.

You can't register with or switch from an ISP type of email, to a web-based email like Gmail. Given that it's 2014 and lots of real people have Gmail, I don't really know why, but ...

You can't use web-based email addresses to register, you need to use an ISP based one.

Can't find it in FAQ, but a quicking gargling produced this, which sounds familiar:

""Sorry, the email address or domain entered has been blocked.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to sign up using Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, Compuserve or any other anonymous e-mail providers.
Due to past abuses we cannot make any exceptions. Please try again with a non-anonymous e-mail address.""

I sign on with att.net account and that is
a Yahoo account with a different name.

And he said he had a hotmail account that
worked.

eeeeps, does this mean i have to leave?

a) my ISP does not provide an email account, i must use a web based email.
b) when my gmail email is rejected, it reverts back to my hotmail email

perhaps i just should have shut up about this whole situation
 - if the admins kill my account: it's been a great 10+ years, i'll miss you guys.

oh yeah, i have no work email - must take 3-4 months off re: the operation.

I know that in the past, I tried to change it to my Gmail
account and couldn't, but I recently changed it to an Outlook
account that was accepted with no issues.
Edit: was not suggesting Outlook as a solution, just a comment
on web-based accounts in general.
