My dad and I have had this discussion many times about how predicting storms at any time can be a sketchy proposition. You really can't pinpoint exactly what happens where. The hurricane that blew past the Mid-Atlantic coast this July 4th was a primary example of this. (And yet the rest of the year was so quiet as not to amount to anything except for one or two major storms churning their way over or past Bermuda.)

In the case of the Nor'easter that came through this week, it was a matter of where it tracked. Had it stayed about 10-12 miles east of where it went, I'd have been driving my way through about 6 inches of slush. As it was, the path took it inland far enough for what snow did lay to just melt away in the rain, and it sped north before falling temps would bring about the predicted snow ending.

Thanks Andy - we're plenty warm due to our large wood stove. It's a must have in the mountains around here :)

We ended up with 18 inches of snow.  Started yesterday around supper time and ended around lunch time today.  Power went out at 3:00 am earlier this morning.  Could not start the blower with the electric starter and the chord was broken on my blower so I had to fix that first before I could get going.  The snow was heavy and wet.  What a freakin' mess.  Just glad that power came back on around lunch time.

I prefer to use the weather rock. It hasn't failed me yet.

Yeah, but you're in Canada. When I lived there, we called that "Thursday."

Fortunately here in Halifax, NS we've had nothing more than a dusting so far. Fingers crossed it continues like that until Christmas Day; I got my fill of snow last year.
