http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/DiversionsOfTheGroovyKind/~3/ -AQR6ykpn2M/thanksgiving-feast-2014-to-steal-ant.html There is a pretty cool blog called Diversions of the groovy kind that posts about 70s and 80s comic stuff. Today they are pretty excited about John Byrne's Antman. I remember reading this as a kid and the page where Antman "explodes" in growth and decks the guy is a favorite image.

This is a hidden treasure, all right. My pickings were lean back in my childhood years, and it wasn't until after I turned 13 that I would have more access to the available comics. By then, the focus was almost entirely on the X-Men so I missed the opportunity for this example of JB's better work of the time.

I think I've got that issue tucked away upstairs in the attic somewhere.
Methinks that would make an enjoyable after-Thanksgiving read!

I never got part II.  It was a fantastic comic and I wonder how the story ended? That story was created back in 1979..when comics were comics and not the unrecognizable products they became today.  I think if Marvel and DC stopped publishing today, the movie fans wouldn't notice or care. The era I grew up reading comics....the 70's and 80's and of course the 60's great Marvel genesis ..was the best of the best of eras to read comic books.

I bought both those issues off the newsstand. I really enjoyed that
story.

I loved Marvel Premiere back in the day!
It seemed like Marvel's testing grounds!
Remember the Alice Cooper issue?
Those were the days!

I`m sure i read that Darren Cross was the villain in the film, wether that`s still the case i`m not sure. Also, didn`t the test footage feature Ant Man growing rapidly and punching out a bad guy? I remember buying both parts of the comic in 1979,brilliant story and art.

I got part one probably not too long after it was on the newsstand...and went years....decades, actually, before finding part two in a comic book store in Williamsburg, VA that had a John Byrne section. That was maybe 3 years ago...

I guess I could have found it online way before then...I often wondered how it ended. But, it was more gratifying to see it staring back at me at the comic book shop.

I didn't even know what the cover looked like, so it was really quite a surprise.

And didn't disappoint. I'll have to re-read that this weekend, too...
