How did it come about that Dan Green became your inker on ASM and BOTD? I remember when BOTD was first announced that I commented that Green would be the perfect choice for inker. Bud De LaRosa was chosen instead, who I felt did a fairly decent Dan Green impersonation with the inks....and then eventually Green himself became inker. Dan Green doesn't mesh well with certain pencilers, but I've found him to be your best inker (when you employ other inkers), and his line was perfect for they style of stories BOTD had - I especially remember the demon disembowelment scene.
I know that inkers are sometimes chosen by the artist and other times by the editor, so I was curious how we ended up with this perfect matchup!

There was a lot of shuffling as I recall, and both times I was lucky enough to end up with Dan.

JB is definitely JB's best inker but in recent years, Dan Green has been my favorite if JB is doing pencils only.

Agreed. It's funny how both JB and Green changed their respective styles over the past 30 years, but they still remained compatible. Green's inks over JB's AVENGERS run in the 70's were also quite good, and I actually preferred it over Terry Austin's of the same time period. Green has his own style for sure, but he seemed to remain inline with JB's own inking line. He never altered the pencils in any negative way......everything was still clearly JB, which a "garnish" of Green, which is more than I can say for many of his other inkers. His "chaotic" line doesn't go well over somebody tight like Jim Lee or Joe Maduriera, but it was the perfect fit for JB's BOTD. He complemented the book's tone.

…everything was still clearly JB, [with] a "garnish" of Green…•• I am so going to steal this line! A good inker adds "garnish" to the pencils -- s/he enhances, but does not alter!

Green works well with other artists, too. His inks over John Romita Jr's pencils in those issues of Uncanny X-Men which maintained my interest in the characters after JB and Dave Cockrum left were among the best work he did, to my recollection.

Yep, I liked him over Marc Silvestri, also. He goes well over kinetic pencillers. Which could explain why his one time inking Jim Lee just didn't work out that well.
