…those organized criminals in the "Maggia".

••

That wasn't due to the Code. That was Marvel wanting to avoid problems with Italian Americans.

He did not get around to this, so I later offered a small homage to his plan by naming Sharon Selleck's rock band "The Rolling Dead." Surely one of the in-est of in-jokes ever!)

My young brain had guessed the band name was an amalgam of The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead.

The Code had balked at my use of the word "terror," it being on their Index, and he had had to argue that it was not being used in an "exploitive" fashion.

I can understand caution in the use of the word "terror," but it's seems pretty obvious it's not used in the context the creators of that rule intended to prevent.  Crazy how strict interpretation of one rule can almost trip you up, particularly on a clever story (one of my favorites not only from your run but in FF history) which was hardly offensive or inappropriate in any way.

...and different staffers had different interpretations of the Rules. Especially if there were "personal relationships" involved.

Yikes.

an amalgam of The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead.

That was my guess, too!

Yeah, my account exploded this afternoon. Not sure why. Got some of it back, but I can't do it all from my iPhone.
