Any number of freelancers don't have insurance, or don't have adequate insurance.  Even if Norm had pretty good insurance, chances are that a catastrophic illness like this with long-term rehabilitation and recovery would tax the limits of one's coverage.

Since we're on a second page of conversation here, I'll re-post the link to the donation page for people who want to help Norm keep pace with his rapidly mounting expenses:  Norm Breyfogle Stroke Fund

I can't find the link, but isn't there a fund riasing effort for Norm right now where artists are drawing Batman pictures and selling them for donations?
