Horrible news. I'm a big fan of his art, remembering with huge fondness his Detective and Batman run with Grant/Wagner. Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

For me, his Batman work ranks up there with guys Jim Aparo. Get well soon, Norm.

Terrible news. Norm was the Batman artist when I first started reading the character's comics and he remains one of my favorites to ever draw the title. But more important than that, I've talked with Norm many times over the years, though we haven't met in person, and he once allowed me to interview him for a website I was working for. I consider him a friend. I hope he recovers fully and fast.

I have a special fondness for his Batman, which I
discovered in DETECTIVE around when I was introduced to
Jim Aparo's depiction in BATMAN.

Twenty-five years ago, I met him briefly at the Heroes
Comics in Greenville S.C. I was still at the age when I
understood that their were names listed as having
created the comics but a part of me still couldn't
believe the writers and artists were... normal guys. In
my mind, it was like early Marvel where Stan and Jack
called up the Fantastic Four so they could detail their
latest adventures.

My best to him and a speedy recovery.

Incidentally, my first exposure to Norm's dynamic art was a Captain America backup story in JB's all-splash Hulk story in Marvel Fanfare (possibly the only issue of Marvel Fanfare I ever bought). As I understand it, Norm drew (and wrote) the story originally with Batman and then replaced with Cap so that he could submit it to Marvel after DC had passed. It was a fun little story.

54 years old.  I enjoyed his Batman work and remember that Cap backup in Marvel Fanfare Peter mentioned.  Get well soon.
