Not sure if this has been discussed anywhere else.  My first time starting a topic in all my years here.  Congrats to our host for being number 4.  Although most here would elevate even that....

As long as the three ranked above JB are guys like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Wally Wood, I don't think anybody will have cause to complain. Hopefully that's the case, and not some flavor of the month artist. In fact, I think our host might quibble with being ranked above Neal Adams.

With all due respect to JB, NOBODY should be above Neal Adams. (OK, maybe Joe Kubert.)

=======
A while back I started a thread of top 10 writers and artists of all time.
Of all artists, JB was my personal number one. I haven't missed an
issue of JB's work since Alpha Flight 24. I can't say I've been that
loyal to any other storyteller.

If I were to do the list from a more historical perspective my top 10
would look like this.

Steve Ditko
Jim Lee
Carmine Infantino
John Buscema
John Byrne
Wallace Wood
Will Eisner
Joe Kubert
Neal Adams
Jack Kirby

The words better and best have little meaning to me as far as comicbook artists are concerned. What does it take to be a good artist ? Objective skills at anatomy, perspective, etc.but most artists know their basics, yet everyone has their favorite artist. There's something more than just the skills that has made JB my favorite artist for nearly 35 years. Neal Adams may be said to have a more realistic way of rendering anatomy, but realism is one approach among others. I for one recognize Adams' talent, but his work simply does not talk to me. JB may not be the best artist in the world, but he is my FAVORITE, the only one whose work really makes me dream.

John Byrne was my Jack Kirby growing up, and he got my top vote.  I'm glad he placed so high.

Forgetting about the rankings for the moment, I do agree with a lot of what they have to say about JBs art.

For me, JB's X-men got me into comics.  From that point on his art defined the characters and their worlds for me.  Number 1 for me.
