No need to kill anyone. Just stop selling them weapons. Don't pretend they're good guys when they obviously aren't.

Marcio, you're defending the US having extensive trade and diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia, but just a couple weeks ago you were criticizing Obama for merely opening diplomatic relations with Cuba. Saudi Arabia is arguably a far more repressive regime than Cuba. Couldn't the argument that change can only come from inside also apply to Cuba? Why should the US behave differently towards these two countries?

Not arguably, Jason. Saudi Arabia really is far, far more repressive. In comparison, the Cuban regime is a pussycat.

Why should the US behave differently towards these two countries? -- O, I'Ll take a shot at this one. I'm sure if we drill deep enough the reason will become obvious,

And yes, don't be fooled: Michelle Obama is "in trouble" for being Michelle Obama. It's the norm over here now that we live under tyranny.

The USA has been friendly to the Saudis for many years because of oil, of course. It will be interesting to see if and how the relationship changes going forward, now that fracking has leap frogged the US much closer to oil independence.
But the middle east is a complicated affair, to say the least. Saudi Arabia is in competition with Iran to be the dominant power. If the US has to pick a favourite between those two, I think we all know who will win.
The Saudis executed someone last year for "sorcery". That got me thinking that the Dr. Strange movie should open up with Benedict Cumberbatch on trial in Saudi Arabia. "Guilty as charged your honour. Now...let me show you a sorcerer supreme..."

In this modern world, I wonder if any nation can truly consider itself "friends" with any other. There seem inevitably to be ulterior motives buried -- and often not too deep! -- in most "relationships." Someone mentioned Israel, and our policy does seem to be to treat that nation as our friend in the Middle East, even when they are caught spying on us! Then it's basically shrugged off as "part of the game."False friendship is, of course, preferable to open hostility, but we often put ourselves, as a Nation, in precarious positions when we get chummy with countries that have yet to drag themselves out of the 11th Century.

Jason, let's not forget that the family dictatorship of the Castro's running Cuba are the same guys who plotted with the URSS to have nuclear weapons in USA backyard and put the world half step on the edge of extinction, so unless you think that is totally cool to forget that, compare Cuba with Saudi Arabia is just silly.
