I can't say that I like any of the choices on this "short list."

Ditto, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

I like the fact that they are looking at young looking 18 year old actors to play a high school aged Peter Parker rather than actors pushing 30.

CBR is reporting that a possible working title might be:

********

Shows how far the character has moved away from his origins.  Not blaming Hollywood for this one, the comics went this way 15 years ago.

Longer than that, if you count all the Spidey team-up books. While its true that Spider-Man was the prototypical loner early on, its also true that the original concept of the Avengers was, "All the big name heroes team up in one book" ala the JLA. It only later became about a certain particular group of characters. So all that New Avengers stuff (while I'm not defending what Bendis actually did in the books), conceptually, was a return to the original concept of the Avengers.

Spider-Man belongs in THE AVENGERS as much as Batman
belongs in the JUSTICE LEAGUE. But Spider-Man just falls
apart completely as a character if he's in The Avengers.
His money problems are no longer an issue (he works for
Tony Stark now). He can hardly claim to be wasting his
life as Peter Parker by being Spider-Man (did I mention
he's working for Tony Stark?). Spider-Man should never
receive that kind of "adult" approval.

What Stephen said. A 29-year-old Spider-Man in the Avengers works only in a WHAT IF? type continuity. Otherwise he's just another superhero.

I believe there's a very succinct, one-word answer as to why they would possibly make Spidey an Avenger in the new movies...

KA-CHING!!!

At most Spider-Man should have an association with the Avengers. It's okay to share personal contact info between them. But he shouldn't be a member of the team.

I think Spider-Man adds something special to the Avengers. But the Avengers take away something special from Spider-Man. A steady income and reputability aside, a Spider-Man who enjoys the support of a team of peers and mentors isn't quite Spider-Man anymore.

Spider-Man is an outsider. Someone who does the right thing, but rarely gets the credit for it. Hand in hand with this, is that there is an element of the character being plagued by self-doubt.

The Avengers, meanwhile, are diametrically opposed to being outsiders. There is an element of the establishment about them: they are government endorsed and well-regarded by the general public.

As Stephen so perceptively points out, being an Avenger means a level of approval and acceptance that wipes out in one fell swoop much of what constitutes Spider-Man's character.

Seems to me that Marvel's various teams and solo characters have lost
their individuality. Every character and group's "worlds" all bleed into
each other, what with the endless crossovers and such.

It's really just one big, company-wide team, now--the "Marvel
Universe".

There was a time when everyone seemed to understand that Spider-
Man had his own special problems, supporting cast, and villains,
whereas the Avengers had theirs. There were the occasional team-ups
and crossovers, as well as the occasional villain/cast swap (such as the
Kingpin being transplanted to Daredevil's rogues' gallery, and Ben Urich
hanging out with Peter at the Daily Bugle), but each individual
series maintained its particular identity.

These days, we have stuff like Norman Osborn playing around in the
Avengers' world, and Wolverine as a member of both the X-Men and
the Avengers. It all sounds like a yucky slurry, if you ask me,

----

El Mayimbe (the blogger whose unconfirmed "scoop" everyone is reporting) was also the guy who said AVENGERS would lead into a Planet Hulk movie, Black Panther was going to be a Phase 2 movie, Carol Danvers had been cast and was making a cameo in AGE OF ULTRON, and a couple of other things that were way off. Until there's a formal announcement from Sony/Marvel, I'd take this info with the appropriate sized crystal of sodium chloride.

IIRC, scenes had been filmed, but were cut out of the final movie.

If footage of Carol had been shot, the casting would have been leaked by now. A Captain Marvel cameo never made it past the early draft phase.

The web source who claimed the name of the next Spider-Man movie will be "Spider-Man The New Avenger" is now recanting their story. Just another click-bait article based on specualtion. Someone heard from a "source", that has unconfirmed "sources" told him that was the working title.

I think the film will be named "The Spectacular Spider-Man". Since we've seen Spider-Man and the not so "Amazing" titles have been used up.

I'd go for "Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man"

It's a mouthful, but it's got a soft spot in my heart as a title.

Umberto Gonzalez, formerly of LATINO-REVIEW.com, first shared this over Periscope and said during that broadcast that it was a working title, not a final. Where have you seen him recant this?

Some slight buzz the other day about 19 year old Billy Unger possibly being in the running (or possibly him just trying to coyly get himself into the running).

In any case...I would be happy with him as Peter Parker.

Brad may be on to something... I think PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN would make a wonderful title!

But it'll never happen. As much as I may enjoy their movies, Marvel Studios seems incapable of mining any ideas from anything Marvel Comics came up with pre-Ultimates!
